Re: Footprint for trimmer potentiometer
开云体育If you know the part number google search part number Kicad footprint. There are numerous websites which work with distributors, vendors, and so on to create symbols, footprints, and 3d models which you can download and import.Usually pots are generic so odds are very high a pre-existing example is out there. The preferred solution is to create your own footprint for the part you

wish to use. Sometimes you can find an existing footprint that is close, save a copy of it in your personal footprint library, rename it as you desire, and modify it to be exactly what you need. The process, once understood, is not onerous. On 4/10/2024 11:21 AM, John Woodgate wrote:

Footprint for trimmer potentiometer
开云体育I rarely make printed boards, but I need to in
this case. I am using version 8.01. I have identified footprints
for all of the components except for a 1 kohm trimmer
potentiometer. This has? 5.08 mm spacing between the end pins
and 5.08 mm spacing of the slider pin from the line of the end
pins. The footprint library seems to be based on the user
choosing parts from a very limited number of suppliers and
knowing the exact part number. I can see no 'generic' footprints
at all, but I seem to remember that earlier versions of KiCad
had 'generic' footprints. Is the only solution to create a
footprint? --

Gerber export with DRC errors
Hi all,
On the FB group, someone pointed out that KiCad refuses to generate Gerber plots when there are DRC issues with the board. My experience shows otherwise. Is there any feature like this? If there is, how does it work? Thanks, Levente -- Levente Kovacs Senior Electronic Engineer W: |
Re: Problems with Audio plug2
开云体育Thanks, Brian, but that's not the problem. I
am not sure which message you are replying to, because you
haven't cited any of my message.? I have been advised how to
configure 'libraries' so that my? modified symbol file can be
added to the schematic. I am surprised that the library
management is (counter-intuitively) under 'Preferences'; I think
it's so fundamental that it should be a top-level tab. On 2024-04-01 16:31, Brian German via

John, if I am understanding you correctly, you may still have the 'add symbols' tool activated (your cursor would look like an opamp symbol next to the crosshairs) thus only letting you see this when right-clicking...
If you hit 'Esc' or the 'Select items' tool, you'll see an arrow for your cursor (with the crosshairs).? Now select your symbol and right-click(RMB) and you should see... |
Re: That question again: How to import an Eagle
On 31.03.24 21:14, Jon Evans wrote: > Try adding the Eagle library in the Manage Symbol Libraries dialog. > Eagle is one of the formats supported there. Ah, that sounds great. Found my way in there, but using "browse libraries" to navigate to my Eagle stuff, Kicad will again not see a .lbr file, only .lib, so no apparent ability to digest Eagle there. (Clicking on the "Kicad symbol library files (*.lib)" button offers no better eyesight, despite the up/down chevrons intimating that options are on offer.) I may have to grab a strong coffee and brace myself for a Kicad upgrade, in the hope that being up to date will reduce the risk that I'm doing things the hard way. (Procrastination can do that - don't ask me how I know.) Many thanks, Erik |

Try adding the Eagle library in the Manage Symbol Libraries dialog.

While mostly being comments denying the usefulness of importing a library, there was one link there to: I.e. it appears that Kicad _can't_ import Eagle libraries, and it's necessary to use Eagle to generate kicad format instead? OK, I'll give that a go. Anything that works, after all. Erik |

That question again: How to import an Eagle library?
Tried "Simply go to File->Import Non-KiCad Project->EAGLE Project and then select the EAGLE schematic file", as googled, but in Eeschema, File-> Import->FootprintAssociationFile will only allow .cmp files, not .lbr. Top level Kicad's File->ImportProject->EagleCAD will only allow .sch & .brd files. The one thing worth importing? _is_ a hand-forged custom library, so I'm fervently hoping there is a way, even though multiple google hits only hint at the possibility, without actually revealing a working method. If there's a mention in the Help manuals, then I'll have to visit an optometrist. It is slowly training me. As the shortcuts sink in, workflow improves markedly. Erik |
Re: Problems with Audio plug2
开云体育I selected the symbol, but the pane that opens
only offers symbols from the KiCad library. I see no way of
selecting the symbol file in the Project folder. I will try
reading the Help. On 2024-03-31 19:26, CW via groups.io

Ah. The 'Cancel | Zoom | Grid' menu appeared because you did not select the symbol beforehand. I should have mentioned that! Select the symbol to make it active, then right-click to get the full menu. --

Re: Updating KiCad
Junction point is not imported but net connection still present.
I checked with Highlight Nets button. So... imported schematic is correct electrically. But dependent how schematic complicate you will have (or not have) total mess with visualization and understanding of schematic. -- Kind regards, Victor |
Re: Problems with Audio plug2
All right. It seems like you want to create and use your own symbols so this is unfortunately the perfect time to create your own schematic library. Rather than try and explain here, may I refer you to the KiCad online documentation:
