Re: Create a new symbol from an existing one

Hi, I'm not familiar with the component, but here goes anyway. 1) When you say KiCad won't let you save it, did you get any error messages? 2) Are you trying to store the part in a private/project file or a KiCad controlled file? I usually create a "project parts" file within the directory structure for the project and then update the project preferences to pick it up but only for this specific project. When I'm creating the part I sometimes get the save library and save part order mixed up. My failing.? Not KiCad's. I hope this helps in some small way. I looked at the on-line Help, but it doesn't cover making a new symbol from an existing one. Please advise. I use KiCad only for schematics, so I need no advice about footprints, etc. |

You don't say what operating system you're using, but if it's Windows, the library has to be in the user space. Alternatively, you run kicad as administrator but I never do that. KK will ask you to save under the old library. You just ignore that. On Sun, Nov 26, 2023, 2:04?PM John Woodgate <jmw@...> wrote: I am trying to make a symbol for a 'D-element' or FDNR. Re: GenCAD-Export: Testers needed (was: PCBA-Export for Flying-Probe Testing: GenCAD export broken?)
Hi Chris,
May you explain how from KiCad (V5, V6 or V7) you generate GenCAD files, being also interested in Flying probe tester to analyse possibilities to use KiCad ECAD for PCB dedicated FPT complementary calibration tools. BR GerarfFX |

Try to delete the .lck files in the project folder. Maybe Kicad was closed wirh some kind of exception.

Re: Schematic file reported as "already open" ??
I have my KiCad projects on Microsoft Onedrive. This is great if you use multiple computers to access the same files (not at the same time of course). I know Onedrive does have a file locking mechanism. But maybe KiCad has its own, but then it should be easy to find since all KiCad files are readable text based. (didn't search yet)

I suspect there is a bug in at least the nightlies before this one (just downloaded this nightly). I haven't reported it yet because I want to be sure. Occasionally, closing PCB editor causes a crash and reload, leading to the message you see. On 2023-10-13 9:01 a.m., David Slipper wrote:

Is there a lock file/counter somewhere that I need to clear ??? Dave |

Hello!
I'm trying to connect KiCAD to a PostgreSQL database using DSN (under WIN10) ODBC Driver is installed (connection test is succesfull). Can you help me fill-in ..kicad_dbl file to connect KiCAD to the database? At the moment I've tried: "name": "name of my PostgreSQL database" .... "type": "odbc", "username":postgres", "password":"mypassword", ... "connection_string":"", the error is something like:? Fail to load symbol library. Impossible to connect to database ..... C:\jenkins\workspace (long path....) .....? Data origin name not found and driver not specified. Thank you Paolo |
Re: Personal library not updating ...
开云体育I assume you have your personal library in the footprint library list?If you have footprints with the same name in more than one library, KiCad will choose the first one it encounters in the footprint library list. Therefore, for your personal library to take precedence, you need to ensure that it is listed above any other libraries where there may be symbols of the same name. You can move libraries up and down the list with the arrow buttons. Just something to be aware of. --

I can work around it by changing the foot print in the PCB editor and then update the schematic from the PCB but it's a bit of a PITA. Dave On 05/10/2023 18:46, Andy wrote:

Any chance that you have a project library with the same name as your
personal library, and you have updated the personal library, but not the one in the project? Andy On Thu, 5 Oct 2023 18:11:34 +0100 "David Slipper" <softfoot@...> wrote: Hi, I have a personal footprint library that is used in a project. |
