Dead Kicad projects

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I¡¯m fairly new to Kicad.? I am using Kicad V5.1.9 on Windows 10.? At the moment there are 5 files (file.pr) in File Explorer that show 0KB and I did something that caused the files to be lost.? How can I delete the dead .PR project files from the File Explorer.? The files were for test only, so I don¡¯t care if they are lost forever but I don¡¯t know what I did to lose them.

Thanks to anyone for help.???? Jeff miller

Edge plating is a common enough feature. I would think generally, you would need to make a manufacturing drawing with your requirements detailed in notes. KiCad has plenty of suitable technical layers in which to construct such a drawing. Other notes on this drawing would include your required stackup and laminate specification, surface finish etc., together with any panelisation and board edge break-out routing you may want.

My regular board makers have this to say about it:

The Eurocircuits website also includes a sophisticated data editor in the front end where you can directly add features like this and internal slots/cut-outs etc. Other fabricators may offer similar facilities. Otherwise, you're back to a regular manufacturing drawing. This could either be on a suitable Gerber layer or supplied as a PDF. These things normally add a day or two to the delivery for each party to understand and agree by way of email on what's to made.

I always thought the castellated edges of PCBs were done by drilling
holes which were then plated, and then the edge milled back as a
finishing step when the PCBs are cut out of the sheet of laminate at
the end of manufacture. To do that I would have thought you just set up
the board outline to go through the middle of the holes. I don't know
how one would deal with the resulting DRCs.

But then I haven't needed to do this, so haven't investigated further.

May be I have misunderstood your question, but arcs can be placed in the Edge Cuts layer, which defines how the PCB outline is routed. This is also how you might puts slots and other kinds of cutouts within the PCB. For internal arcs, remember to check with your PCB manufacturer what cutter sizes they use.

I want to add an ?Arc-shaped Plating?Edge Pad to my PCB. I wonder if it is possible to do this in 6.0.x version.

press Ctrl key while you are clicking your mouse on the PCB wire, and the whole net get highlighted, and repeat the same action to dehilight it. I found this feature on veriosn 6.0.4 . This feature is define on hotkey 'i" formly? on version? 5.x

Yup, big fan of Syncthing. What an absolute winner that software is.

Re: Auto Place Footprints not respecting "locked" footprint status ...

If you use the selection filter in the lower right corner.
- Have only Footprints checked - and NOT Locked Items
- Area select the entire board area.
Now you have all of the unlocked Footprints selected.

Continue with your Auto Placement

(I use this for selectively using the "Geographical Reannotate"? also - when
I want some components left alone)

Re: KiCad 6.0.4 Save Issue #gettingstarted

PS: Forgot to mention - Yes, H is available from File Explorer AND the command line tool without calling it with administrative rights.

Re: KiCad 6.0.4 Save Issue #gettingstarted

Following up on this issue:
When I use K/C6.04 on a Windows platform, creating a new project on a local drive and working with it, everything operates as expected.
I can also zip the design directory, back it up to the (H) drive (the Linux machine) and restore it, either to the same Windows platform or another.
When the design directory is unzipped to a different Windows platform, running the same OS and K/C, it operates correctly.
So, I would consider this a closed, but worked around, issue. I would still LOVE to know WHY this failed...
Best Regards and Thank you for the people who replied!

Auto Place Footprints not respecting "locked" footprint status ...

Hi, I am running KiCad 6.04 under Win 10 Pro x64 and I am keen to try "auto placement" of footprints.

The board I am trying it on has a number of locked connectors but when I select the whole board and use Auto Place on selected items
it moves the locked items as well :-(? There are only 5 locked items but 150 other components? so selecting only the unlocked items
is a pain.

It also does not respect "keepout" areas which strikes me as wrong.

Is there an option to have it respect locked items ??

If I move the unlocked items off the board and use the "off board" option it does what I want, but moving the unlocked items offboard
is, as I have said above, a pain.

Regards,
Dave

Cab you access h: via the cli or file explorer?

It Sounds line samba getting upset, which is why I usually use NFS and
mount the remote drive on the linux workstation I don't use windows much
if at all, but when I did use samba it was always a pig to get the
permissions working correctly. Even things like thge workgroup and domain
sometimes caused grief.

I have verified I have full administrative rights to my local (C) directory and the permissions to the repository (H) are set open on both Linux and Samba. I am NOT initiating KiCad on the Windows machine in administrative mode, although I have done so and tested, with the same results.

An odd end result / also observed effect is all of the component values that were saved have vanished, although the reference designators are still intact???

Could someone guide me as to where I am going wrong?

There are some KiCAD documentation in PDF on?https://docs.kicad.org/
But I`m amazing that so critical document as KLC have not PDF version and even is not mentioned on this page... ((

If the goal is just to have the content locally: you could clone to have it all on your own PC, including history.

You'll need hugo and ruby-asciidoctor to display the content.

Hi
Thank you. Printing from browser work but with unpredictable result (clipping figures, for example).
Probably I`ll use LibreOffice.

Re: KiCAD KLC in PDF (request)

Hi,

Another approach I've used, copy and paste into Libreoffice and export
as pdf.? One good thing about that method, things like videos or other
content you can't print can be removed and a link inserted instead.?
Then if one wants to refer back to the video or whatever was removed,
the link is there.? Or one could put the name of the video then download
and save the video locally, to avoid the video being removed later and
no longer available.?

Also, if I do this, I put the URL for where I got it at the bottom of
the document.? That way if I print a copy for someone else, they know
where it came from.?

Just another option.?
