Whiskey 4 Moonshine special event
The 2025 W4M special events starts Tuesday at 20:00 (8pm) local time. Attached is the link to use the sign up page. Please remember to keep a log so you can send it to me at the end. Also when using the 1X1 call, you most identify with your call once an hour per band. We have this call sign till Wednesday the 30th 8pm local time. Below is the link for the sign up page. Find an empty spot and have some fun. There is also "tabs" at the bottom with some guild lines and basic info to talk about. All bands and all modes can be used. I do prefer operations to be done inside Franklin County, but if outside get a hold of me. We have been invited to operate at the Car show on the 26th, but I'll be working that day. If you can make it out there, let me know. 73 Tim / AA4SS https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12TACYu5ukI5uQCiM9yZeLb8vAe6CbLcbpPcanraumis/edit?usp=sharing

FCARC Antenna Program Monday, November 18th 2
For most of the past decade (roughly a full Sunspot Cycle), I’ve been able to compare the performance of two or more antennas on each of the five non-WARC HF bands — 80, 40, 20, 15, and 10. What I have learned about antenna height, ionospheric propagation, and the effect of terrain at my QTH in Snow Creek has often surprised me. I’ll be sharing my findings as part of the FCARC program this coming Monday evening, November 18th. I hope you can make it! Bud, W2RU

FW: 2 mtr SSB proposed net - 11/4/24 at 7 PM 144.200
Thought I would pass this on, may be fun! I’m going to try to check in Monday, if I don’t forget! ? From: Charlie Lamb <bentmountainpinnacle@...> Sent: Thursday, October 31, 2024 12:41 PM Subject: 2 mtr SSB proposed net - 11/4/24 at 7 PM 144.200 Hi fellow amateurs, Recently, a number of us have been getting on 2 mtr SSB after the 432 net on Wed nights. But often it is becoming late by the time we transition and fewer folks have 432 antennas than 2 meter antennas. Some retire early also. But for those of us doing this, it has been enjoyable. It has been suggested by many that we try to get more folks in range to join us on a dedicated 2 mtr SSB net. Given that the "national" 2 mtr VHF night is Monday, we are looking to give it a whirl since the fall VHF/UHF season is upon us. For example, conditions last night allowed me to hear stations from NJ down to GA on 432. 2 meters is frequently capable of much longer distances, even 1500 miles. Please join us if you can at 7 PM on this coming Monday night 11/4/24 for a trial rag chew/DX net on 144.200. We have hopes of getting a VOIP remote 2 M SSB station on Bald Knob near Covington with stacked squalos one day! NY hams have been doing this for many years: About – 2meternet.com Their main day for the NE net is Sunday in the morning. We may eventually try to meet on their active evening chat freq of 144.240 and attempt to join them - but with local activity so low, let's just start out on the calling frequency 144.200 at 7 PM on Mondays. Consider it totally informal. I'll start out trying to call it since I am sort of in the middle of the group. We may eventually get a web page to help make contacts like Dex hosts for the East Coast 70 cm net. Please forward this info to others or at least mention it in passing. I don't have everyone's email address and in the interest of privacy, blind copied the group. I included a few folks that I don't think have transmitting equipment but who listen to SSB. This net will be the most interesting with many participants. Serious operators use horizontal polarization but this is not essential. Use any sort of antenna you have that will resonate - it might surprise you what you can do. If you like to build things, I have attached a diagram of a horizontal squalo by Gene, WA4PGI. It is simple but inexpensive, efficient and sturdy. I looked it over yesterday on my visit to PGI's house and it is a very good design. If you have 75 mtr LSB and can also join us on 3630, we can use that frequency at the same time - it has proven a good liaison frequency. Charles W4KZK Bent Mountain area EM97XE

FW: Assesment Activation
Please see email below. Jerry W4JWC From: J.C. This storm had a major impact along the Appalachian chain in Virginia. In order for those impacted to receive all the benefits due them damage assessments must be completed. Generally this involves a drive-by or a 3 point assessment. If so, we would serve as communicators and “shadows” for assessors. Hams trained in assessment might serve in both roles. The role that we would play will depend on the needs of the agency in charge of the event. The scope may be assisting in as many as 10 counties in SW Virginia. We have a number of hams that that are in SW Virginia that are already preparing their communication trailers and themselves for an activation. This is not an appeal for members of ARES, RACES, AUXCOMM etc. This is an appeal for Hams of any strap to work together to get the job done. You may not have any affiliation and that is fine. We are in standby mode waiting for word from the served non-profit organization. I am sending this invitation to the 177 hams that registered on the Virginia Emcomm site but if you are not registered you are still welcome to serve. Providing this service is a monumental task but you will be paid well with a sense of satisfaction. If interested send me a reply to this email and we will keep you in the loop as the response develops. Thanks, Glen Sage, N4DN email: n4dn@... 276-266-4456 Cell. -- jim W4BEA
