December 2023 In-Person Club Meeting 4
All, Hope everyone had a great holiday! For the December 2023 in-person club meeting, we'll be starting at 6pm with a short session by Cyndi (KK7AZD) on nets. Cyndi will be talking about how to check-in to a net as well as various terminology. Our in-person meeting will follow at 6:30pm. Here is a Google Meet link for those who wish to join virtually. This link will be good for both the 6pm session as well as the 6:30pm club meeting. Remember, we're voting for the 2024 club officers at this meeting and results will be given after 7pm during the meeting. Current voting club members should have received a ballot from HamClubOnline. These are secure ballots and your votes are anonymous. We will also be passing out ballots during the club meeting for those who would prefer to vote in-person. You can also email president@... or secretary@... if you would prefer to vote that way. Google Meet URL: https://meet.google.com/xdb-akoy-sff Thanks, Charlie / K7AKT

GMRS Repeater Update 2
Hello All!!! First I have to say going with Charlie to Hogback is always an Adventure!! Couple trips back we got to the top and could not open the door to the shack. We used his winch, we beat on it! It was quite cold, we thought it was frozen shut. We almost pulled the whole frame out of the building LOL!!! Next trip we tried again, then SOMEONE had the idea to turn the handle! BOOM the door opened!!! No one has ever used the handle, so some hiker, we guess, tried the handle and turned to the Lock position!! This trip 12/23/23 (20 degrees) the gate at the bottom was really frozen the key would not tun, so Charlie had a shop vac we used the hose, Charlie held it against the vent of his Jeep with the Heater on Full heat and Fan speed, I held that FROZEN lock (brrrrr) and held the other end to it and heated it up, took all of 5 minutes and the Key turned lock opened, THEN the gate Pin that holds the gates together was Ice frozen, this time Charlie kicked about 4 times BOOM pin came out!! Hey, but the door of the building opened right UP!!! SO I swapped out the Motorola RKR-1225 (it was having some serious problems) with a Kenwood TKR-850 35 watt repeater. All went well, till we tried to test with someone in K-Falls... no one could get in or hear it!!! WHAT???? Oh crap put the TX cable to the RX of the duplexer and the RX to the TX!!! DOHHHHH... swapped the... Yeah it is WORKING!! So back in operation linked to East Klamath County, Douglas County in Sutherlin and 3 repeaters in the Medford/Grantspass area along with Cave Junction. 6 GMRS Repeaters linked the 7th one in Phoenix/Ashland coming online in the next few weeks! Wish to express my sincere appreciation to Charlie and K-Bar-A ! Without all of you, my dream of having a repeater system in Klamath County would not have happened!!! I was able to talk on the New DMR repeater from Beatty, my FIRST DMR contact EVER was Dennis in Sprague River. Thank You Dennis!! A lot of neat things coming in the future!! -- D. Hogback DMR Repeater 6
The Hogback DMR Repeater has been put into service!! I've provided a screenshot below from the Anytone CPS software. I've highlighted the most important parts for talking to the repeater. Time Slot 1 can dynamically join various Brandmeister talk groups. We are not connected into the TGIF network. Only Brandmeister. Time Slot 2 has our local KBARA talk group of 313876. You won't find that talk group listed anywhere as it's not an official talk group but instead our repeater ID. It's what was recommended to use for a local talk group without having to officially register one. You just program it in, and it should work. We have tested it. Here is a link to some information about the repeater: Repeater Info | BrandMeister Good luck! Charlie / K7AKT

Yasesu VX-6R/E 5
This is Marshall KJ7TRW, I came down to help at the parade Thursday but failed to get my radio to work. My Yasesu VX6 would transmit and be heard but no receive. I hear static but no signal. After an hour of playing with it and reading the manual with no luck I came home and continued trying to diagnose. Once again could hear transmit on home unit but no receive. Anyone out there have experience with this unit and some mysterious setting I¡¯m missing? Thanks

3D printed callsigns 13
Hello everyone! My oldest son, who is a serious introvert and has a mild form of autism, is working on a project for his high school involving having to create a small business idea, setup a business plan, acquire needed tooling, design a specific product, and then try to attract customers, all while recording the various business and financial records and such to prove the idea can sustain itself. He has chosen 3D design and printing. His first product- ham callsigns! If you'd be interested in having him produce a callsign display for you, please let me know. He doesn't have much confidence in regards to what to ask for them cost wise, if anything at all. He's managed to figure out it's a couple of dollars of raw material/equipment costs per callsign. I've been trying to convince him of the need not sell himself short as far as the work he has to put into it to design them in CAD, program the printer, the various other overhead costs involved, and to look forward as far as keeping the project sustainable. So he has finally decided on a price of one for $10 or two for $15. I'll attach some images for examples. He currently can make them in blue, red, black, or white. The white ones can be nicely painted using acrylic paint. Let me know if you'd like one! 73, Erik KD6RRR

November 2023 In-Person Meeting / Google Meet (Zoom) Link 3
If you'd like to attend tonight's pre-meeting "Grounding and Bonding" session or the main club meeting virtually, you can use these links. Note that this is our first-time using Google Meet. There is a 60-minute limit which is why we are doing two separate meeting links. If all goes well and we like it, we'll take a vote and subscribe which will give us more meeting options. This meeting will run inside your browser. I've tested Microsoft Edge and Chrome. I would expect it to work in Firefox or Safari as well. 30-minute pre-meeting "Grounding and Bonding" session presented by Jeff Eastburn (KJ7IRV) https://meet.google.com/eii-tkad-rha Main monthly meeting https://meet.google.com/ikc-nanh-iyd Hope to see you there!
