All,
Please let me know if you are interested in a SOTA (Summits on the Air) lecture put on by Amy Haptonstall (AG7GP).
?
From our club meeting, it sounded like a Saturday 1pm class was of more interest than a 1hr Zoom class. ?The idea with the in-person class is we would possibly take a field trip to Hamaker (weather permitting) after the class and do a SOTA activation.
For dates, I'm thinking October 12th or 19th. ?The later we go, the more chance of bad weather.
Please let me know if you're interested and what date works best for you so we can put something together.
Thanks, Charlie / K7AKT

You did chase me on Goosenest W6/NE-016, 09/03/2023 2M FM. Never to late to log it on sotadata.? Goosenest is a great hike to go get a complete on too! K6DBS, Dave, who came yesterday, and I did it together and it is in my top 10.

Thank you for such a welcoming fun day. As usual, I remembered later many things I left out, including a video slide show I will try to send in case you want to see some photos of my adventures. SOTA, just like any part of the radio hobby, is a learn as you go hobby and hard to cram in an hour. Always more to learn. Below I attached a couple examples of logging since several did their first activation. There are many other ways, as I think a few were using apps on Hamaker. Here is a link for FLE if interested. If you look at what I enter on the left vs what the program auto fills you can see the short cuts it provides, saving a lot of time. You can put more details in such as true RST but I don't bother. I keep my paper logs if I need the details for a qsl card. Also note that everything is UTC. When Gina and I were on Chase it had just switched to a new day 00:00.
?
Hope to hear more Basin operators on the air and if anyone is in the RV area for a SOTA or see my alert in the Basin, reach out if you want to do a joint activation. And don't forget, the chasers are just as important!! We need you to make it work, especially for those just starting out who may only have an HT to operate with. I may have forgot to mention the chasers can get the points for each individual summit daily rather than yearly like the activator. I think Aaron got a s2s on 40m on Hamaker, even though he already activated Hamaker this year he gets credit for that s2s too. Feel free to email me any question, always happy to help. Thanks again and I'll try to get that video slideshow over.

Special thank you to Amy Haptonstall (AG7GP) and her husband for making the trip over the hill.? Thank you for sharing your knowledge of SOTA and providing a great introduction to it.
After the lecture, Amy led a group to Hamaker and Chase Mtn for some SOTA fun.? Unfortunately, I was unable to make the trip.? From what I understand, it was a great success.? Eric/KD6RRR reported SSB contacts in Oklahoma, Japan and Ghana!
Thank you everyone!

At the lecture I was giving away laminated 8.5 x 11 copies?of the ARRL band map (with the WAS map on the backside) along with a quick reference card.? I only brought 10 thinking that there wouldn't be so much demand.? If you missed out come to the club meeting on the 23rd and I will bring some more to give away.
