Locked WOW 121/ERROR (308)
Good morning all,Recently installed a wow 121 kit into atlas locomotive.?Started programming with Decoder Pro, ?some ?CV'S program with no problem, ?others don't seem to take programming?I.e. I try to ?change or remap a function, and I'll either get that (308) error message or if no message, ?when I try to activate the function, ?it doesn't work?I'm using jmri 4.6 Windows 10 ,pr3 to dedicated programming track.Any suggestions? Thanks John...

John,
The 308 indicates that when the PR3 sends a programming command, it isn't hearing an acknowledgement back from the decoder. There are two likely causes. One is that there's a bad connection somewhere between the PR3 and the decoder. It could be a loose wire somewhere, or even something as simple as the loco's wheels not making good contact with the programming track. The other possibility is that the DC power supply you're using with your PR3 is insufficient for the WOW's programming needs. If you're using a PS12 or PS14, try something in the 16-18VDC range. I have a WOW 121 in a Kato SD40, and my PR3 with an 18VDC regulated supply reads/writes from/to it with no issues at all. I am getting the same problem, and I know it isn't the command station or power Supply. I tried it on two different command stations and power supply's and get the same 308 error.
How ever if I just use the simple programmer to read or change CV's it works fine. It is the "Read all CV's" or 'Sheet" that gives me the errors. Dennis |
Dennis,I went with an 18vdc wall wort from Radio Shack, ?haven't gotten (308) since. Some people have chided in that it can also be a dirty track and or wheel ?issue that generates that code...

I did some tests with WOW decoders when they first came out and found they failed sheet operations with some command stations. A few of us did some tests and it seemed the decoders may not have complied fully with the NMRA Service Mode timing requirements (when reading-writing indexed CVs). I experienced what appears to be unrecoverable firmware corruption with several chips and gave up testing, having more pressing things to do.

TCS released newer firmware that was purported to help and (if my memory serves me correctly) also submitted modified JMRI code that introduced timing delays in the TCS Indexed CV code. But that was some years ago and a lot of water has flowed under the bridge in my life since then... -- Dave in Australia On 4 Jul 2017, at 10:23 PM, dbcherry@... [jmriusers] <jmriusers@...> wrote: |
I agree their are issues sometimes, but this Engine has the WOW-121 installed 2 years ago, and yes had problems in the beginning to read Sheets, but on one of the recent updates all the CV's would read just fine, and now all I get is 308 errors on a lot of the CV's.
My Command stations are a Lenz Set 100 with 18-20 volt 10 amp Filtered DC input with the command station set to 16 volt on the track. Using a computer grade power supply with sense feedback, very stable. The other command station is a DCC++ set to 18 volts Filtered DC and could read the CV's also now get the same errors as the Lenz. I am using the latest test version of JMRI and always update when a new test version comes out. This is a test bed system and not running any layout. Dennis in Tennessee |
