Locked What decoder ID to use for Zemo MX660?

Mel Graham

I am unsure what Id to use for the Zemo MX660 decoder. Have one installed, but do not have it showing on the drop down menu under the Zemo family. Any ideas?
Thanks ,
Mel

I’m having to guess what you might mean,? do you mean “Zimo”, and what decoder do you mean ??? I can’t find a MX660 on the Zimo website ( ) , either under current or withdrawn models.?? So you’ll need to clarify what you mean to get a precise answer.

?

As a general rule, for basic stuff, it doesn’t matter as all Zimo’s have the same CV structure.? For more advanced features, then a decoder with similar features will work.?? For advanced features its probably more useful to match the firmware version in the decoder (most Zimo decoders can have their firmware updated) as the firmware changes bring in different features.?

Nigel,
Yes I meant "zimo". ? ? It is a very new decoder. I received it from Streamlined Backshop Services.

Marc,
Using what Nigel posted, I used the MX640? and was able to get to load. Reading the cv7 gave 123 and the cv65 gave 123.

Mel,

You need to check your settings. There's a 99% chance that your preferences/defaults are set to INTERNAL rather than your real hardware. The remaning 1% is that you're using the simulator. Both make it impossible to read real data. In both cases, the value 123 is returned for EVERY read attempt. In your situation, the first 123 is absolutely certainly wrong (different manufacturer).

The Zimo MX660 is discussed in Larry Pucket’s “DCC Corner” in the January 2019 Model Railroader magazine. It is a recent addition to the Zimo line up. Larry used DecoderPro to program, but did not say what decoder choice he used.

Yes it was. I missed that. I reset it to loconet.? When read from decoder for ID, it comes up with" Massoth Elektronik , Gmbh ?? .The selections there just do not seem remotely close?
I tried the zimo MX640 again but still receiving? a value of 123 when reading cv'7 and 65? ??

Mark,?
That is where I got the idea for the MX660. as I had a 44 tonner needing a sound install. I guess I should have first asked him? by posting on his site. I got sidetracked when it come up not responding correctly. Just to add, put another engine on the test track, and changed a couple of sound volumes. Worked as it should.? I do not do a lot of installs, but rarely have many go south on me.

You still have the problem we are all talking about!!!
If you get "Found mfg 123 (Masoth Electronic, GMBH) version 123; no such decoder defined.", and/or all CVs return a value of 123 and long address 15,227 it is 100% certain that you cannot communicate with the decoder and that one of two possibilities have happened:
1) Preferences->Defaults has Service Programmer (and possibly other items) set to Infernal.
2) Preferences->Connections has System Connection set to Simulator.

Possibility (1) is the most likely. It would most likely have occurred due to a previous failure to open a connection. If there is no alternative to Infernal, you currently have a problem with the connection to your DCC system and you need to resolve the connection problem before proceeding. If an alternative is available select that, restart JMRI and try again.

Warning, the Infernal problem can happen again in the future if you have any connection problems. See comments at:

This will be fixed in JMRI V4.14

Dave,
I thought about the programming track connections when it did not respond. Reset the sound on a couple s-4 's that needed a bit more volume, and all worked perfect.
I have double checked and restarted the program several times now, making sure it is set to Loconet. Also watched the new loco window to be sure it was set to Loconet.
It does return 123 for the value in any cv that is read.
Also, Dave I am following along carefully with all posts and ideas. Have reviewed them and have tried any ideas presented. You are correct; We are all talking about the same problem. Just not come up with a solution. And I do not have enough hair left to pull much more out.? ….
I posted a question over on DCCGuy's site and asked what id he used for his in Decoder Pro. Waiting for a reply.?

Until you fix the CVs returning 123 problem you don't have the faintest chance of success doing anything with any decoders in JMRI!!! No exceptions!

It will help us if you go to the Help->System Console menu item, click Copy to Clipboard and paste that into message for us all to see.

Alternatively, go to the Help->Locations menu item, click on Open Log Files Location and upload the session.log file to a folder with your name that you create in the Files area of this list and in the Problems Being Worked On folder already there.

It would also help us if you could take a screenshot of the Preferences->Defaults screen and upload it to the Photos area of this group.

If you don't know how to take a screenshot, tell us your computer type (Mac,Windows,Linux) and we can explain how. A lot better results than trying to use your smartphone or other camera.

Ok, Larry just posted that he used MX649 +32
I do not have that id in my definitions . How do I obtain it.
Mel

Marc,

Your images were stripped. You'll have to upload them to the Photos area.

If you are using Locobuffer-USB and say DCS100 on COM3. PREFERENCES Connections should be such :

And the Defaults should be as such :

Marc,

Posting those screenshots in an album under Photos would be very helpful for Mel to check his settings.

I don't have LocoNet so can't do some.

OK....
I had to buy a new laptop last month when my desktop computer died. Good thing I had the roster saved to a desktop file. I had copied that to my desktop in my home office that I use for a "main frame". ?
Short story, I installed what I wanted on new laptop including all of the train stuff. Downloaded the win 10 drivers and installed with locobuffer-usb alp.
It tested out great; no problem. I used a few locos sound levels to adjust and test the Decoder Pro set up. Worked like it has for many years.
Saw the article on the 44 tonner by Larry in MR, was hooked. I have a great running 45 tonner with the Soundtrax micro and it is fabulous. I think I may have messed up the install on the Zimo. I am going to put it on shelf for a short time; let the grey matter rest.
To all of you that posted help and ideas, please accept my THANKS.
When I get back to it, will post again
Mel

Quite! THAT is step one. No ifs, no buts.
