Locked Roco locomotive / Motorola decoder
开云体育I have purchased a Roco Locomotive (Fleishmann) with a Motorola decoder, does not show up in list of decoders, am I out of luck or am I missing something? ? Robert J. Richter 283 Elm Street North Reading, MA 01864 ? |
开云体育I take it then that this is a three rail AC locomotive with a Marklin Motorola format decoder? ? ? ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]>

开云体育you are screwed as far as decoder pro is concerned most likely. On 12/8/2019 3:54 PM, Robert J. Richter

开云体育Not so sure, it is detecting a Zimo decoder, but the numbers only go up to, I think, 649, and I have what the Roco website says is a NEM 651, so maybe I need to wait for the 651 to be programmed, now where did I have that problem before…… ? 开云体育I too have a ROCO locomotive and when programming with the decoder pro the response says it a Zimo decoder. However on trying to assign a number it does not allow any numbers. Using my Digitrax programming track I can give the locomotive a number.? ? Suggestions would be appreciated. ? ? ? ? Mike Shore On Dec 8, 2019, at 7:27 PM, Robert J. Richter <rjr@...> wrote:

If your Command Station can change the address, no reason for JMRI to not do same (if going thru Command Station). But you are high jacking someone else's thread.? Please start your own thread or thing can get a bit confusing and suggestions get cris-crossed. Marc |
开云体育Have not looked at cv8 or 7 yet, but latest test? version of JMRI, just downloaded today ? Robert J. Richter 283 Elm Street North Reading, MA 01864 ? From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of forfoum@... ? So it is not a Motorola decoder after all. |
开云体育That is possible that no one has written a definition for that
yet?? On 12/8/2019 7:27 PM, Robert J. Richter

Quite possible, CV7 will give us an idea where it stands.?
Unless Robert can tell us what specific Zimo decoder it is.? NEM651 is of no help.? Must be MX???? or similar.? MAybe tell us with specific ROCO engine it is and we can fish for details. Could also be as simple as adding the decoder in question to the list.? At present CV7 = 37 is the highest value in definition file. Marc |
Hi Robert, It helps when you provide more information as others have suggested. Here goes with the little we have. The NEM651 is commonly used in N scale locomotives. As such the decoder is likely to be a Zimo MX648 or MX649, small format sound decoder. Similarly, no problem in programming the address. I use NCE as well as DP. 开云体育If it’s a Zimo (likely on a modern Roco loco), then further CV’s (starting with CV7) will get to both the Zimo software revision and the decoder hardware description. ? There is a fair chance that the specific version in the loco isn’t in JMRI.? But, that doesn’t matter as 99% of Zimo features are common over a lot of hardware and software revisions, so picking something close in the JMRI list will work fine.???? The task of keeping up with the rate of releases from Zimo is difficult (dozens of software releases, every decoder being end-user upgradeable to any new software version), so quite a lot of small releases don’t get noted and/or don’t get to Zimo definition files in JMRI. ? ? ? -????????? As Marc just said, CV 7 only gives the Zimo Software version number (currently 37 or higher), the decoder model itself is stored in CV250. Thus JMRI should tell you to chose the model depending on the Zimo SW version. |
