JMRI/LOG
When i use jmri the system console info and loconet monitor data goes into files in the log directory inside the directory holding the profile that was opened.
?
what happens to the data that occurred first when the 3 message files are filled to capacity and the file is bigger than 3 files worth-is it lost?
will the other log file(whose name i forget) contain all the system console data no matter how big it gets?- is any data lost if too big?
?
when i close the session and open a new session what happens to the data of the previous session.?
?

When you start and end a session, that goes into the sessions.log and the message.log. When you start a new session, a new session.log file starts.
When the message.log reaches 1 MB it gets renamed message.log.1 and a new message.log starts. -- Peter Ulvestad Linux Mint 22.1, JMRI 5.11.5, Java 21.0.6 JMRI Users Group Moderator ( /g/jmriusers ) JMRI Developers Group Moderator ( ) Tam Valley Group Moderator ( ) Sprog-DCC Group Moderator ( ) Edmonton Model Railroad Association ( ) |

The "session.log" file is replaced each time you start PanelPro or DecoderPro. Messages to the "session.log" file are also written to the "messages.log" file. When the "messages.log" file reaches 1 MB, the "messages.2.log" is deleted, the "messages.1.log" file is renamed as "messages.2.log", the "messages.log" file is renamed as "messages.1.log" and a new "messages.log" is created. If you want any log backups, that is your responsibility. Dave Sand ----- Original message -----
