JMRI and EasyDCC #easydcc

Recently could not get JMRI on my Windows 10 laptop to talk to the EasyDCC Command Station. After much fiddling around with cables (and replaced the serial adaptor cable) I can open JMRI (5.10) on my laptop,? turn layout off and on, select a loco and the buttons for programming on main and program track highlight. Also the words in the bottom left hand corner of the screen are in 'green'.
However, I cannot program the loco CV's using either the main or program track.
When I go to edit, preferences, defaults - the buttons for both the program track and main are blank and cannot be activated!
Thoughts please?

Could the simulator version have accidentally been selected?

Peter,
?
Did you change anything recently, such as updating JMRI? Were there storms nearby with lightning? Any clues like that could be helpful. If changing the cable made a difference, then perhaps more was damaged?

Thanks for responses - a most frustrating exercise, indeed!!!
No storms here.
I've removed and re-loaded JMRI 5.11 after trying 5.10 again with no luck.
Installed the new USB to DB9 serial cable and downloaded the driver.
Can operate locos via my EasyDCC command station but have no communication between laptop (running Windows 11) and command station.
Pulling out hair here Downunder!!

Peter,

Did you change the COM port number in JMRI after changing out the USB-Serial device? This sort of change with Windows usually causes the COM port to change numbers.

Thanks for replies. I finally got my old Acer Windows 10 laptop talking to my EasyDCC command station and could program loco CV's both on the main and program track. It involved messing around with resets on the command station and re-installing the driver software for my Uintek cable - phew!!
Now I need to find out why the newer HP Windows 11 laptop will not connect when it used to do so.
More testing to day.

Thankfully I can now connect to my EasyDCC command station via my Windows 11 laptop.
When opening the DecoderPro app I'd always clicked on 'My JMRI Railroad'. However, when I now do this my roster page comes up with all locos listed but no ability to program via the main or program track.
However, when fiddling around I decided to click on PanelPro instead and the connection to my command station worked, but there were no locos listed. I had to re-create the roster in PanelPro and, bingo, all came good.
So, now have all working and can program on the main and program track via the PanelPro item instead of usine the 'My JMRI Railroad' profile.
Happy that things are working but the question remains as to why?

Peter,

Based on your description, you have different "profiles" for DecoderPro and PanelPro. ?And it appears that the different profiles have different layout connection definitions.

The profiles are listed in "Preferences -> Config Profiles". ?
