Fast Clock on Engine Driver and LNWI

开云体育Mike, ? You would have to have the JMRI clock follow the LocoNet clock. Simple to setup in the clock controls in the Tools menu. ? -Ken Cameron, Member JMRI Dev Team

Mike,This is not what Mike wants - he wants the LocoNet fast clock to follow "Real Time". That is "doable", but requires different settings in the "Tools"->"Clocks"->"Setup Fast Clock..." settings than what you suggest. And, depending on your hardware, there can be "issues", like some hardware doesn't like to be "set" to some specific times, and other 3rd-party hardware seems to interpret times differently than Digitrax throttles. And, in general, Digitrax in specific, but LocoNet in general, _does not keep reliable track of time_, and LocoNet devices will generally "guess" when a minute should end, regardless wf when the "master" says it should. This means that t LocoNet device can get ahead of the "master". So just be sure that you do not "rely" on a LocoNet device to show "real" times! |
开云体育If you want the real time showing as the LocoNet time, JMRI will do that. You have to set JMRI as the master and it will keep adjusting the command station clock to stay in sync. At least keep you within a minute or two either way. ? But all that is just some of the choices and options you get in the Clock tool. ? -Ken Cameron, Member JMRI Dev Team

开云体育Mike, ? As far as I’ve seen, Engine Driver gives you the time that is the internal JMRI fast clock. By default, that clock gets set to current real time when JMRI boots. But after that, there are tools on a number of connections that will set and sync the clock to match what’s on the connection or force the connection to follow the JMRI fast clock. Which system connections support both directions or just one, that depends on the system. ? -Ken Cameron, Member JMRI Dev Team

I guess the question becomes where does Engine Driver get the time it displays (including a 7:1 ratio) when connected via Digitrax LNWI? ED gets the fast clock from whatever WiThrottle server it is connected to.

It looks like LnWi is providing the fast clock.?
Switch 15 suggests that it is possible to change the clock from a controller.? There is nothing like that in the WiThrottle protocol (that I am aware of) so I am not sure how that would work.

Thanks Peter for pointing me towards WiThrottle. ?I reset the clock on the command station and the LnWi shows the correct time on ED. ?I still don't understand when it says "1 unit = 7" on the ED as I set the rate=001 on the command station but I'm happy the timing issue is resolved.
Thanks to all.
