Locked Com driver for MacBookPro

All,
?
MacBook pro
JMRI 5.8
DCS100
PR3
?
? ? Was trying to help a friend with starting Decoder Pro.? He was running 5.6 with Java 10.? Could not read a loco on the programming track.
?
? ? PanelPro would not even startup.? All we got was a small square window with something about F8 and F9.
?
? ? ?Was using a short USB cable to the PR3.? System seemed to like that, but no return from the loco on programming track.
?
? ? ?Any advice?
?
Roger

Roger,

Start by replacing Java 10 with Java 17. ?JMRI requires at least Java 11.

Dave,
?
? ? ?We were trying to find a way to delete the old Java first and could not figure that out.? Both of us are not Mac knowledgable.? ?
?
? ? ?I will pass that on about Java 17.? We had downloaded JMRI 5.8 and could not even start DecoderPro.? I'm hoping he will just go out and buy a WIndows laptop.

Roger,

Select "Computer" from the Finder "Go" menu.

Navigate to "Macintosh HD/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines".
Move the old Java install to the trash. ?It will be necessary to authenticate with the admin password. ?Empty the trash.

I prefer the Azul (zulu) installs.

Also check if the USB port is connected to the command station
?
Go to System Settings-> General -> About -> system report (at the bottom)
It will open a window to show hardware, network and software report
Under hardware menu, click on USB. The right hand pane should show if anything has been connected to the usb port
