Locked Alternate Sections in Transits using Dispatcher

Hi - I hope someone will be kind enough to help please.

In my Transits I set up alternate Sections where available (ie for single line coming into dual platforms for instance), and it works perfectly if one or other of the Sections is occupied. -?

However, if both Sections ahead are occupied then a window comes up asking the user to choose a Section for the train to use. - In fact multiple windows open for each section the train passes through on the way to the red light in front of the 2 blocked sections. - This means that running is sadly no longer automatic.

I don't know if anyone is actively working on Dispatcher, but it would be wonderful if in the above scenario the train stopped and waited for one of the two Sections ahead to become clear.

So, firstly, in case I've missed something / am being stupid (!), please could someone confirm that I'm not doing something wrong

& Secondly, if I'm right I wonder if some kind soul could see if this could be fixed please.

Many thanks
Torben

Hi Torben.
You cant actually call it a bug as it was done by design. If both the primary
and alternate are both occupied then it wants the operator to choose which will
be the next section, that is which one is it going to use next, regardless of
which one comes vacant first, this due to the way the dispatcher currently
works. The same problem occurs if manually allocating.

Hi Steve
Thanks for letting me know.
- That's certainly a shame, as it does restrict auto running to single lines

Running "safe" solves this. A train will not leave it's current section until the next safe section is clear. That's normally a passing point that has alternates.

Steve,

? ? Well, I've learned two things reading this post.? Will have to try out 'Safe' and 'Alternate Section'.? ?Is 'Alternate Section' ok to use as the end of a Transit?

Roger

Roger,
It would be nice if it worked for beginning and end of transits, but currently I don't think it does. Maybe when the season changes.

Steve,

? ?Okay, it's not just me having problems with Safe mode.? I tried that and loco just sat there.? I though that the Dispatcher setting was what you were talking about.? Is it the sections?

Roger

Roger
You have to set up the transit indicating where the safe sections are. These are normally the passing places on a single track main.

Hi.
Just a thought. I'm no expert and I haven't tried this exact scenario, but I have used similar workarounds myself. It may work trying to? create a new block just before the before the platform turnout with virtual signal masts controlling entrance to this new block. The signal mast logic would need editing to protect this block only if both platforms were occupied? (perhaps using? a virtual sensor and logix). The train would stop at the signal and wait before entering the block, presumably before before triggering the pop-up message box. It? would only then proceed after one of the platforms became clear, negating the popup.

Wow,? thanks Steve 009 - that sounds interesting and certainly worth a try....? I think I understand enough to give it a go!

Steve G - My layout is continuous running - ie the same direction on any one piece of track.? I have therefore set all sections to be 'Safe' - and it doesn't make any difference to the 'Alternative' situation.....? apparently anyway.
