Locked MTH DCS/DCC DECODER #mth

Understand that newer MTH engines have a DCS/DCC decoder that will work fine with Decoder Pro.? I am thinking of purchasing a Dash 9 model.? How can I find out if that engine has the? DCS/DCC decoder?
Thanks
Bob

Hey Bob,?
Look for the Proto 3 sound labeling on the box or write up

I recently purchased a MTH Dash-9 PS3 locomotive. It gave me a lot of trouble programming the 4-digit locomotive address without defaulting to some other 4-digit address.

Despite programming the locomotive 4-digit number; which finally gets accepted and works on the main; and despite writing all sheet changes, when saving the configuration file you get a warning that not all changes have been written.? For now I am just happy it accepted my locomotive number change.? However, if I try to re-read the decoder it comes back with some random 4-digit address.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Ah! the wolf gang got you to. Welcome to the realm of MTH junk. Your troubles have just begun. If you really like the locomotive, do what I did for mine and a couple of our other club members, pull all of the MTH DCS (I think thats what they call it) crap out and put a soundtraxx decoder in it. You'll love your self for doing it.

Tsumani, Loksound, Linz, Zimo, even Digitrax or MCR is better.
Looks very good on the shelf otherwise.
I know very few folks who bought more than one MTH locomotive....

Thanks Steve and Thomas.?

Yeah got a good deal on the Dash-9 only to learn later issues with MTH locomotives and the DCS.?

As a novice it is probably not just a simple plug and play decoder that can be easily replaced or is it?

Fortunately the Dash-9 is CN yet I model CP so this locomotive would be just on the interchange; and at least for now, I think we have the 4-digit address programmed and holding in the decoder.?

Thanks
David

I have been told that MTH decoders are programmed to more align with MTH's DCS product.? One issue I have heard is that upon turning off track power, the decoder will reset itself.? So far, so good in that my MTH Dash-9 has been holding its locomotive 4-digit address when I have powered off my layout.
