Hello Dave and Users:

Here's the new kid on the block again. Taking one of your member's advice I bought a used "adequate" laptop running Windows 10 and am ready to load stuff into it. I'd like to put the latest software into it, so: Is it OK to download Java 1.8 in followed by JMRI 4.18 or am I asking for trouble? Or do these not have enough heritage of use? If so, what tried and true setup do you suggest I start with? Some of my locos have new decoders in them.

JAVA 1/8 = YES

JMRI 4.18 is not available until end of December as the next Production release.

If you are ready NOW, download and install the latest TEST release? 4.17.5

Your anti-virus will? certainly warn you or block the execution of LAUNCHJMRI.EXE? .just override it

Panama Beach, home of Digitrax. They got hit pretty bad by hurricane Michael. Hope you were spared.

Hello Marc:

Thank you for the reply. Yes, PCB got hit pretty hard, but nowhere near as hard as to the East. My place had $35K of damage. Digitrax is to the East of us and was in a seedy tin building originally. They got demolished. They are now in a brand new suitable building; much larger than before. Mexico Beach (around 25 miles East) is still essentially non-existant.

Per your advice, I will go with JAVA 1.8 and JMRI 4.17.5.

Warmest Regards,
John Moniak
