Locked Operation Manifest not printing #operationspro

I recently installed JMRI? 4.14 and after setting it up, I built a train and attempted to print the manifest.? However, even though car lists and everything else prints just fine, the manifest will not print (it just locks up in the printer).? ?In fact, on the "Preview" page, which shows up in a new window, there is no option to print at all, no file list, just the first line that says "Print preview", then the line underneath which says "Previous page next page Page 1/1 Close".? So I have been using the "Preview/Print" button on the bottom of the "Trains" page.

Right clicking anywhere on the preview page does nothing, no options, no box, nothing,

I have an HP 6960 with a wireless connection.? I tested the printer with more than one troubleshooter, it is fine.? As I said it prints everything else on JMRI. Should I just try installing an older version of JMRI? If so which one? Or reinstall? Has anyone else had this issue? I was told by a friend that has the software, that he does not have this issue, the option to print shows up on his Preview page. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Lee,

Can you check the console window for error messages?

Dan

I'm not sure what console you are talking about, but the only error message is one that pops up in a separate window on the pc saying the document could not print. Then the printer goes into error state until I clear the documents.

As I said, other documets in JMRI or just fine.

I was told by my friend that the addon manifest printer in JMRI may require Excel, which I do not have installed. I am seeing indications that the script being sent to the printer is not in a printable format, so this perhaps could be the cause.? He uses a different manifest program which requires Excel.

Lee,

The JMRI system console can be found under the main tools menu, under the heading "Help".

Can you preview your train manifest?

Dan

Lee,

Are you trying to print out a "standard" manifest that the program provides, or a custom manifest that requires Excel?

Normally you can build a train, and after the train builds, the build button will change to "Preview" or "Print" depending on the checkbox at the bottom of the trains page.

Dan

Dan,?
Art Houston here helping him set up.? Printer prints car page and other documents from Ops but will not print the manifest.? Does not have Excel so using the Ops program only. HP printer.? It is acting like what its get it cannot print.? Printer is giving error message.? The manifest is built and we can see it in preview.? But when we check off print box and and try to print get error message from printer.?

Dan,? I run excel and manifest creator this one tough for me.??

Okay,? I believe you stated that you can "preview" the train manifest, but can't print it.? Try changing the font to one of standard fonts, and try printing again.

Dan

The new font shows in the preview, but it still won't print. Same error

Sent shot of my screen and try to figure out why lee's is so different.?

Thanks Arthur,

You've selected in the "Use Text Editor" feature when previewing your manifests.

Dan

Well we have a winner.? I didn't have "use text editor" checked off (and saved) in the Manifest Print Options.? Not sure if it came like that or if I mistakenly removed it.? But it works now, so much thanks to Dan and Art.? Now it's time to run a train!

Well, despite reading through this thread, it's not clear what the solution was -- and I'm now experiencing the issue.?

I can print almost anything BUT a manifest from the program.? Any time I try to print a manifest, I get a Windows print error. Unfortunately, Windows isn't helping with any information about why either. Switchlists print just fine. Everything else prints just fine. Just not manifests.?

Any hints?

Jim

Hi Jim,

Are you using the same formats for manifests and switch lists?? In the Manifest Print Options window there's an option to use the same formats.

Can you preview the manifest?

When you get an error, are there any messages to the system console?

Dan

Yes, I'm using the same format for manifest and switch lists.?

I can preview the manifest

There are no error messages to the system console. JMRI thinks it's printed the manifest.? The error is within the printer control panel for Windows.

Very bizarre.? The printer is an HP.

Jim

But you can print a switch list?? A switch list is simply the manifest for a location.?

Can you try this, print out the switch list for every location the train visits.? Maybe one of the locations in the train's route has something unusual.?

Dan

I'll give it a shot and report back.

Switch lists print fine.? Print Manifest generates a WIndows error when sent to printer.

Confirmed that the setting for switch lists is Same As Manifest.

Jim,

And you can print a switch list for each location in the train's route?

Can to send the manifest print to file?? Does that work?

Dan
