All - thank you for your help, I finally got JMRI to communicate with NCE
Dave, the step by step instructions worked.? I learned a few things which may seem obvious to others - how to read the NCE version, the JMRI console, and so on.
I verified this:
- replaced previous JMRI with latest (2018-11) version 4.12
- replaced USB driver to ensure I had the correct and latest
- NCE PowerCab version 1.65?(had to start up the NCE several times until I noticed it)
- jmri console reported v7.3.0
- Other settings (USB jumpers, etc) followed suggestions from your post, the part for Powercab V1.65
I tested it with 2 different decoders (one at a time) Programming On the Main, and it read and changed some CV values.
The decoders responded to the throttle. Perfect!
I messed up some CV values, a completely different issue. My wrong CV values proved the programming worked.
The main thing is, jmri communicates with the decoders.
