Locked Updated Scripting web and Help pages #scripting

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

As a newcomer to JMRI and Jython scripting, I continue to learn a lot from the sample scripts provided with the JMRI release. ?The JMRI Help pages (also available on the website) were useful too, but limited in scope.

Over the past several months, I have been accumulating ¡°scripting help¡± from this user group and my own experiences and organizing them into an expanded and somewhat reorganized set of web pages for Scripting. ?These are?now on the JMRI web site at: ?. ?They will also become part of the Help system in the next JMRI release.

While sample scripts should remain a primary source of information on how to create JMRI scripts (learn by doing!), I know that I at least benefit from explanatory material as well (learn by reading). ?If others find this type of advice and guidance useful, I¡¯m prepared to do?the editing work and add ¡°how to,¡± ¡°what and where,¡± or other information?based on community?comments and suggestions. ?Let me know what you think.

A special thanks to Bob Jacobsen for helping me get these updated?web pages into the release library.

Hi Jerry,

As I'm just cutting my teeth on the first scripts, this could not have come at a happier moment! Thanks for your efforts!

Based on recent discussion items in this forum, I¡¯ve added some more ¡°how to¡¯¡± and ¡°what-where¡¯s¡± as well as continued with reorganizing the scripting web and help pages. ?These are?now on the JMRI web site at: ?.??They will also become part of the Help system in the next JMRI release 4.13.6.

While example scripts should remain your primary source of information on how to create JMRI scripts (learn by doing!), I know that I benefit from written explanations as well (learn by reading). ?If you do too and would like to help other users, I¡¯m volunteering to collect and edit additional content you send my way and to incorporate them into an appropriate part of the scripting section.

Again, a hearty ¡°thank you¡± to our developers and other experts who make this forum and JMRI so useful to model railroading.
