Locked Operations

I am interested in trying out a new operating scheme. However I want to do this without disturbing my current program. Does the program allow for a way for this to be accomplished

Jerry Hampton?

Hi Jerry,

Yes, you can create a second profile where you can experiment with the operations program.? Do the following steps:

1. Do a backup in your current profile from the "Settings" page.? You can put a comment in the "Settings" window so you can confirm that you got the right backup operation files later.
2. Create a new profile and activate it.
3. After starting the new profile, do a "Restore" found in the "Settings" window tools menu.? This will allow you to find the backup operation files from your previous profile.? Complete the restore once you select the correct backup set of files.

The program should restart and in the new profile you should find your operation files ready to play with.? Any modifications made by you will not change the original files.? I would also backup your operation files in the new profile so you can restore them if you do something you don't like.? Here's the help link that might be helpful to you:

Thanks for this help. Based on what you are telling me I should be able to alternate between configurations ie run one configuration for several sessions and then change to the other configuration. Does that sound feasible or sensible

Jerry

Sounds feasible and sensible.? Do backups, and name them so you can easily recover in case you don't like the results.

I completed steps 1 & 2?
Started the program Decoder Pro, Tools, Operations, Settings, Restore Operations Pro Files. There were no files here to download.
Where am I going wrong?

Jerry

Jerry,

Which restore did you use, the one under tools in the Setting window?? That allows you to search for files.

Dan

Dan

I used the one in the setting window. I got an empty folder? called backups. I used the drop down menu to search in JMRI folder but was unable to locate the backup for my current trains. Do I need to search further. I did give the backup a unique name?

Jerry?

Jerry,

Again for the third time, please use the "Restore" feature that is in the TOOLS MENU on the top left side of the Settings window. NOT THE ONE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SETTINGS PAGE.

Dan

Once you open that window, press the up one level button three time until "JMRI" shows up in the directory window.? Then select your old profile name, then "operations" then "backups".? There you should find your operation backup files.

Dan

Dan

I? am probably trying your patience but just for clarity I am not using the one at the bottom of the settings page. I do know how to scroll to JMRI in the backups page.
Jerry

Great! When you get to the "JMRI" level? in the restore window do you see your old profile name?

Dan

Dan

Yes? I do . Did not reply earlier due to an ops session yesterday

I am really not sure how I accomplished this but I now have the second layout that I can use to try out new trains. Now I need to make some changes and see if the change affects the original Trains.
Will do that after I think thru how I did it

Now I want to work on changing the name of the original train
