Locked New test version

I've uploaded a new test installer for Windows. Let me know if anybody wants a .zip file for Linux or Macintosh.

Features:

*) Fixes to TCS decoder definition, thanks to Jon Miller. Fix minor typos in other labels.

*) DecoderPro speed table now has editable numbers, thanks to Alex Shepherd.
Speed table also has three new buttons for setting various curves.

*) New "speedometer" tool in JmriDemo program (development menu). I'd love to know if it works for LocoNet users...

*) Control panel tool, see

*) Fixes to serial port error checking and recovery; you'll now get a dialog box for certain easy errors.

*) Roster file handling improved; now remembers the last directory you used (until program is restarted), starts in the user preferences directory.

Some of the error handling code is experimental, and feedback would be greatly appreciated.

The installer can be downloaded from

or the usual SourceForge mirrors.

Bob have you got a sample config file that has a layout (or parts)
configured? I had a play around in the weekend but didn't get very far and
having something done already would help

Hello,

On installing the latest version, is it wise to "remove" the
old version first from MS Windows, or can you install directly over
it?

Jose

It should be OK to just run the new installer. The "remove JMRI" option in the Start menu is there mostly for people who decide they're not interested in the program at all. It will reclaim some space for them.

Yes, that's the symptom for the broken install. Sorry. I'll get it fixed, hopefully this evening.

Oh, what a relief -- I thought I was just being an idiot ;-)
Thanks for all you've done so far!

David:

Thanks. It installed OK when I simply dbl clicked the jmri...exe.

New question:

Under "Preferences", which box should be checked in the "GUI" line.
I run Windows 98, should I check the Windows box?

Thanks again,

Jim Hanna

Hi-
The GUI is a preference, choose which ever one you like best. If you
want to keep Windows-like, then chose that one.
Cheers, David

The "Windows" button will make the buttons, labels, etc look like Windows widgets.

The choices you see there vary with the type of computer. On Linux, the "Motif" or "CDA" choice gives you something that looks native (depending on how your Linux box is set up). On the Macintosh, there are a couple of different varieties that let you match different Macintosh eras.

The "Metal" choice is the native Java look, which will sometimes fit more on the screen and may look more self-consistent. It's always available, and is the best bet if weird stuff is happening on the screen. Nobody thinks it's beautiful, though.

Bob,

I'm impressed! You and Alex have done a fantastic job at capturing my
rendition of the Speed Curve table. Thanks for adding the labels and
speed curve function buttons. Programming my decoders is becoming a
whole lot easier.

I noticed that you're looking for someone to test out programming for
a DZ121 decoder. I've one installed here and would be happy to assist.
