Re: Panel Editor - Signal Heads not able to be Dragged and Dropped from Palette

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýCliff ? Once again thanks for your help!!! ? I do keep the custom icons outside of the JMRI programs folder on my c: drive ¨C I actually have set up a cloud drive on our Synology NAS (J:).? Maybe we are honing in on my problem if something is pointing to the wrong location!? I know that I have a location on J: where I normally store and work on the custom icon files, then I move them to the C: drive JMRI folder so I can access them from JMRI. ? I¡¯d like to know more about this ¡°coping mechanism that enables you to do what we always recommend JMRI users to never do¡±, as this sounds like something I¡¯d do! ? I¡¯ll investigate this all tonight to make sure I have things pointing in the right direction.? I¡¯ll also throw into that ¡°problems being worked on¡± folder my custom icons, the catalogtree file, the layout file, and perhaps a file or two more for your perusal. ? Thanks! ? BobE ? Bob, After a lot of interruptions a block of time allowed me to investigate at least some of what you have described. Unfortunately, I am not able to duplicate what you are describing with your icons. You appear to be using custom icons which would make it difficult for us to just examine an uploaded copy of your panel xml file unless you also uploaded all of those icons. Normally we request one to upload the panel into the "Files/Problems being worked on" folder and report back to the thread with a link to the new entry or at least a unique name that we can find to tie it to the message. Additional files in different folders adds some complexity to that effort. Not impossible, but extra bookkeeping is required at both your end and at ours. But before going down that route, there is an "issue" that involves your custom signal icon file location. Please note that this issue may or may not have anything to do with the symptoms that you have described. It is also possible that you have developed a coping mechanism that enables you to do what we always recommend JMRI users to never do. The first icon in your list is identified with this line:
Which indicates that your custom icon, and all the others listed, reside in a folder named _RJE/Signals and is a subfolder of the JMRI distribution folder. Everything in the distribution folder will get overwritten during the next version update. It is strongly recommended that each user keep all custom files in a folder that does not get overwritten. Depending on how one uses those custom files the protective process can be as simple as creating a subfolder of one's JMRI user's folder with something like "resources/icons/_RJE/Signals/" in your case. If the custom files are to be shared then one might use something like a Dropbox location. Often there is some choice that fits one's needs but is in between these extremes. Once that folder is defined, then the options and preferences dialogs within JMRI and the xml files saved will have replaced "program:" with "preference:" or with "profile:" or with "settings:" or maybe a more complicated explicit local hardware or network name. JMRI will then default to that folder location. Numerous other message threads on this list provide details. Save copies with different names early and often as you make modifications. My apologies for this long digression. It will be either late this evening or tomorrow before I can get back to trying to duplicate your symptoms. Cliff |

Re: Seeking decoder selection for new Walthers Proto GP7 with Tsunami
I asked Soundtrax a similar question about a used Walthers P2K engine, and received the following prompt and helpful reply:
These decoders are based off of the original Tsunami decoder. I've included a link to the proper User's Guide for this.. Mike,
I was able to fix your issue.? Mike had a local switcher that departed staging, serviced a location, and returned to staging.? The program didn't handle the staging track correctly for a local switcher, and the fix will be in the next test release. Dan |

Econami and Tsunami2 Programming issue
#nce
#soundtraxx
I have run into a very specific programming issue with Econami and Tsunami2 decoders:
NCE PowerhousePro JMRI 4.17 or 4.19 (upgraded after I first had this issue. It did not have an effect) I cannot write the page or write changes to the page "Function Map" while in Program Track programming. The first Function will turn red, the programming track will shut off and power will immediately return to the layout. The program will lock and the only way out is to Ctrl+Alt+Del JMRI and open it again. This is the only page in either of these definitions that I cannot write page or write changes to page. I can successfully read any page in Program Track programming. I can write the page or write changes to the "Function Map" page while in Ops programming. Please let me know if you need more information regarding this issue. Micheal Farley Bismarck, ND www.facebook.com/yellowstonedivision |

Re: Cable Extension ?
I have a 25' RS232/serial port pass-through cable between my PowerhousePro and my USB adapter. It works without issue.

Re: Setting Max Speed on Broadway Limited & Digitrax N Scale Decoders
Robert Diepenbrock
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDear Marc,Yes they are in a consist. Broadway Limited units are 2 A units, Digitrax are 3 units, 2 FP7As and 1 F7B. Both these consists are run with all the units in the consist set to the same address, but with varying Speed Settings to match speed. However the max speed issue is the same whether running in consist or separately. Regards, Robert Diepenbrock On 2/6/20 8:36 AM, forfoum@...

Did same and got word from Josh levine? that they are putting the info together to update the Factory Installed Decoder listing for Walthers.
He sent me a .doc file for the New York Central , a production? CV check list. Marc |

Re: DecoderPro Question
You must write the selections out to decoder? via one of the four " WRITE " options or the changes you make will have no effect on decoder.
If you try and close DecoderPro or the open? Roster window,? it will warn you that? the changes were not written to decoder and will be lost If that was your question. Marc |

I should also mention we operate every month and all of us over the course of a year have to travel 3 hours at least once so our sessions range from 2 hours when we are showing off our new toys up to 8 hrs when we get serious about railroading

Hello,
If I change a CV value from the CV tab in DecoderPro does it change the function mapping automatically if it was affected by the CV change? Thanks, Dick M.? |

Re: Operations Feature Request
#operationspro
Question,
Does the Dispatcher perform the duties of the Clerk or is the Clerk a separate job on your railroads? If the Dispatcher does the Clerks job they already have all the info needed. If the Clerk is a separate job then you are requesting more info be programed in than most of us can get operators for. On the railroads I operate on I'm usually the Dispatcher, Clerk, and utility man with new operators. We don't run fast clocks or have to run a certain number of trains for a session I just print off another train and let the crews go. I know how long the sidings are and how many cars fit I also know how long it should take to work the jobs and I keep the railroad moving if someone needs to go in the hole that's what happens that's the fun for me watching crews trying to get their train clear so I can send another through. The owners of the roads let do this because I never do the same thing twice which keeps the railroads from becoming stale. One of the owners let me play around inside the program because the whole session is different every time. If they like what I did it will become a new part if not I put it back. We have been doing this now for over 5 years now I know what the owners want. I go for different every time but I always get permission first. We have so few operators (in a 200 mile area) that it is imperative we keep it new or find a new hobby like counting sunflowers. Matt Greenwood Cascade Railway Grant NE? |

Setting mass speed on BLI and Digitrax decoders
Hi. I just did a speed matching on two BLI E units, an A and B set in HO. Are you using JMRI to program? If you do you should use the speedtable. In the speed table you can adjust the individual sliders or do the log curve and shift left or right. Look at the options under the sliders also enter 128 in the forward or reverse trim boxes. In these boxes you increase or decrease the speed if it's different in one direction or the other. Of course make sure that the running gear is clean a little harder to do in N scale I'm sure.
