Thanks Phil, but on this railroad the sidings are not all the same length and some are shorter than some of the trains.? That's why it would be helpful for the DS to know the train length. Hi again Dan, The lineups I have worked with went something like this, but it's been over 35 years.? Each train was on one line. OAEUY-05? ENGINE 8827 ON DUTY? 0815 AM? ENGINEER DRURY? CONDUCTOR BOUDREAU? 39 LOADS? 1 MTY? 2254 FT? 3600 TONS It's in all caps since that's the type of typewriters used.? I believe the lineup could create its data from the train page.? If a train is checked to build extract that data and generate the lineup.? I'm not sure how difficult this would be but I hope this helps.? I don't think the JMRI lineup would need the engineer or conductor data since that's currently not part of the program, but maybe it could be an option.? Thanks. I have manually created the necessary logics for each of the four signals. The issue seems to be that JMRI thinks the paths are invalid. I have cleared the paths several times. Each time they seem to be created and marked as Invalid (even though they really are valid).

It's physically a real double crossover, wired as two blocks. There is another turnout coming in to one track just after it that is included in the block. On the panel, the alignment is horizontal. Since my two parallel tracks were further apart than those of the crossover, there are short track segments to the wider parallel tracks, and then, on the one side, longer horizontal segments, one with a trailing point turnout coming in.
I'm not sure I can draw it on the panel as four blocks -- there is only the one set of isolation cuts to split it into two blocks. As a FastTrack double crossover, it was physically built as two (left/right) halves and then soldered toghether. I really would not want to cut them apart again. And I don't think JMRI would let me have two blocks with the same sensor. When I look at Paths through the crossover, they are all correct, but are marked with an asterisk in the "Valid" column. It doesn't seem to consider the North/South connection through the crossover as valid (even though it physically is). As far as blocks B6AN is the other side of B6AS. From block B5S (which is directly connected to B6AS), the path to B5AS through the next block B5S, is marked as invalid. The other direction is marked as Invalid. I'm not sure why JMRI thinks the path is invalid, but that certainly seems to be root issue. Scott Walton |

Thanks Dan.? Perhaps I should have mentioned the trains are built on one PC running the latest build of JMRI while the DS computer is running JMRI version 3.10.1 due to an old OS.? The two PC's are not in the same room and sometimes not even in the same state as I will sometimes remote dispatch this layout. I have not seen any issues with block routing based on rotation. For reference, the legs of a cross-over are called A thru D, starting with the blue/magenta connector and moving clockwise. FYI: For slips, the legs are counter-clockwise. The normal block assignments for a cross-over are one block for the A and B legs, and a second block for the C and D legs. This provides independent parallel paths. For a double cross-over (or a left/right cross-over pair acting as a double cross-over with 2 blocks), the block routing issues occur. This is caused by the block routing data structures. There can only be one path from the AB block to the CD block and one path from the CD block to the AB. block. In database terms, you cannot have duplicate keys. There are two choices. As Ken mentions, use 4 blocks. The alternative is to delete bogus pairs and manually create the missing pairs. Dennis, on the Club layout (), we use JMRI Operations for our Op Sessions.? Our era is 1948-1952 with all dark territory so we use TimeTable and Train Orders.? We have a Time Table, that all Crews use, showing all scheduled trains that go beyond Yard Limits.? Our Dispatcher is also provided a simple listing of the scheduled trains in two formats: one by train number, and one by planned departure time.? That listing is printed from an Excel spreadsheet that has the trains manually listed (since we have a planned schedule and build/print/terminate all trains in JMRI ahead of time).?
As a general rule, departing trains are always built shorter than the shortest passing siding on their route, but if the Dispatcher wants to issue a Train Order, he will talk with the Station Operator ahead of time to ascertain current conditions, since cars are often picked up/dropped off so the number varies.? With no signals on the track, each Station is expected to report trains arriving, passing through, or departing, to the Dispatcher, and the Dispatcher maintains a manual board of the location of every active train.? Note that we have just one Station Operator position, and he is in the Layout room while the Dispatcher is in the back.? The Station Operator watches all "manned" stations on the layout and reports by phone, all arrivals, passing through, or departing trains.? The phone actually has been displaced by the era-inaccurate FRS radio which allows the Station Operator movement within the layout room.? For any Train Orders to be issued to a train crew, the Dispatcher calls the Station Operator to receive the order who then flags the train at a next station (or station they are working at).? The Dispatcher will ask the Station Operator for status (timing for expected departure when needed, and lengths) to help make decisions before issuing Train Orders. I fixed up the script errors and turnout errors.? That really cleaned stuff up with the exception of?not finding the script ""RJE Walthers Turntable.py" which I expected as I purposefully renamed/hid this one as it was not working properly anyway.? An issue with Signal Masts (seems to related to paths through a double crossover)
I've gotten most of my Signal Mast logic to display correctly, but there is one Mast (Sig_I1 in the Pennsy West Main panel in the file Pennsy_West_Fixed, in the ProblemsBeingWorkedOn folder "Scott_Walton"). I can't get the Signal Mast Logic to select any of the three possible routes as "Active" When I look at "View Block Routing" for nearby blocks, any path through the double crossover seems to be marked with an asterisk in the "Valid" column. I've tried the Blocks table "Delete Paths" several times and nothing seems to fix that one piece.
I don't know if it's related, but the double crossover doesn't have a "set Signal Masts", only a "Set Signal Heads". This might be because I have short track segments coming from the double crossover which are all in the same block as the double crossover (the double crossover has two blocks a B6AN for the north straight through and a B6AS for the other track).? Is there a way of fixing this short of replacing the double crossover on the panel with two singles? Scott Walton |

Since you say Windows Device Manager shows the Locobuffer-USB is listed no issue with the device driver loading then it is either not the right COM port
selected or something else is holding it up.. Post the System Console log :? >? HELP? > System Console >? Copy to Clipboard and post it to this thread. Need to confirm the Locobuffer-USb is on 57600 as a baud rate and not 19200 as this was a problem with a certain older version of JMRI. Marc |

Cannot get JMRI to communicate with DCS100 Command Station
HI All,
I recently replaced a failed hard drive in my HP Pavilion dv6 laptop with a SSD, re-installed Windows 7 and now I cannot get JMRI to work! I downloaded and installed JMRI V 4.18 and when it loads it does say on the bottom of the screen "service mode programmer loconet is online" and "operations mode programmer loconet is online" in green letters and "programmer status: idle". At the top of the screen there is a power button that is olive in color with Unknown next to it. Programming mode is paged and the programming track radio button is on. When I try to ID a new loco it gives the message "stopping due to error: timeout talking to command station (306). I tried 2 different locos just to be sure. Windows 7 Device Manager says the RR-CirKits loco buffer-usb is working fine. Java is 1.8.0_240. I did try different usb ports but I get the same error. JMRI worked just fine before the hard drive failed and all I did was install the SSD and reloaded Win 7 from the HP recovery dvds and then JMRI. I also reloaded the ESU Lok-Programmer and it works perfectly. No changes were made to the layout wiring at all. I can read cv values from the loco on the programming track with a DT402 throttle plugged into a UP5 panel with no problem. I do not remember what version of JMRI was on the old drive.
