While I'm not using any of the social media platforms they exist and for good or bad are popular. Having one "official" site that is gate keeper to the software and is trusted in the day of malware is very good. For instance getting pointed to a site that could look like JMRI but has malware embedded in a download. Since we're a relatively small group so we see JMRI versions not quickly hitting malware protection "white lists" and click through the are you sure warning... That normal reaction has potential for problems. Also search engines can point to alternate sites ahead of ours risking a malware attack. If you want a different way to have a conversation perhaps on the same platform used for other conversations you're having elsewhere, sure use the socials. I know of many groups that have a presence since there is a genuine "mass" of folks interested in those platforms... and say... rail fan photos of their favorite RR. You tend to stay where you're comfortable... Our moderators (and members) are good at keeping JMRI group a user friendly place with the fewest flame wars (if any...) of any group I'm on, that's a big benefit. If you think the email model isn't great try some of the suggestions to manage you messages on your email software. To all the moderators thank you. Jim Albanowski |

You might want to look at the random feature in the train's route.? That should allow you to easily vary the number of cars delivered to a location.

If you go to the Gmail web interface you can create Labels and Sublabels. For example, I have a label called "Mailing Lists" with a ?sublabel called "JMRI Users". I then went into Settings->"Filters and blocked addresses" and created a filter that looks something like this: Matches:?list:(<jmr Do this: Skip Inbox, Apply label "Mailing Lists/JMRI Users", Never send it to Spam The exact text "list:(<jmr Whether you choose "Never send it to Spam" is up to you. However, if Gmail sends a message from a to Spam (rather than simply deleting it), it notifies? and you are temporarily unsubscribed from that list. If you enable that option you need to be vigilant because the odd spam email does appear in the list. Peter U answered your question without having to resort to other software or fandangling..
Setup your Subscription so it does not send you ALL the posts via mail.? I receive absolutely no mail from this group. I view the content online and SEARCH for? anything? " related "? to an issue? I may be trying to resolve. Subscription, Email Delivery,? Special Notices Only.? Now you will not receive any posts as Emails, you will need to come in and read/search Marc |
Thunderbird is an email management program.? It is similar to Outlook.

Re: Understanding "Random" and "Wait" Variables for Operations Schedules

Hi Patrick,
A wait value of 1 means that the first train that could service the car will not pull the car, the second train built that could service the car will.? So every other train will pull cars with a wait of 1. The random feature could help prevent your spurs from filling up.? A random value of 50 means that there's a 50% chance of a specific car being delivered. But if there were two cars for the train to choose, there would be 100% chance that one or the other would be delivered.? A 15% should only deliver a specific car once in 6 trains built.? If you had 18 tank cars for the train to choose from, you would have roughly a 100% chance of delivering 3 tank cars to the spur. Dan |

There are many different JMRI-related groups on various different media. On Facebook, for example
Or in other languages: Or not on Facebook: And I¡¯m sure there are many more. I¡¯ve even seen a JMRI group that¡¯s specific a single club. Our Dedicated Moderators have put a lot of time and effort into making this a place that works for lots of people. But it¡¯s also fine to look at other kinds discussions, in case there¡¯s one that works better for one¡¯s particular preferences. We¡¯ve even seen people leave this group more than once and set up groups with different emphasis, different types of discussion, etc. This is all a _good_ thing: people can come together to discuss, in whatever way works for them, whatever topics they want. If they want to do that the way we do it here, great. If not, also great. Bob On Sep 28, 2019, at 1:07 PM, Robert Schworm <rkschworm@...> wrote:-- Bob Jacobsen rgj1927@... |

Understanding "Random" and "Wait" Variables for Operations Schedules
#operationspro
Hello,
I am utilizing PanelPro for generating train orders. I have a small simple railroad with two trains daily that service various industries. Essentially, a train leaves the yard with cars to exchange at industries on one side of the railroad and returns to the yard. The another train leaves the yard with cars to exchange at other industries and returns to the yard. Currently I have it setup the most simple way, industries simply call for cars of the type specified until the track is filled. My problem is this means that every industry is filling up their track (or trying to) every single day. I want to add some more randomness and realism to the operations without having to be so detailed as setting day by day parameters. Based on my understanding, I think I can use the Random and Wait variables to mimic what I want, but I want to be sure I understand how these function. Could someone confirm if my understanding is correct: Lets say I have a tank farm with a single siding that can accept up to 3 cars based on its length and the average length of my tank cars. Once delivered, it takes each tank car 2 days to be emptied (starting from the moment the tank car is delivered until it would be picked up), So I have set the "Wait" entry to 1. Based on these factors, I have a theoretical max weekly tank car capacity of 10.5 cars/week. But I don't want the siding to just simply exchange three tank cars every other day, I want it to be more random than that. So, I am going to set an arbitrary goal of 8 cars/week. This means I need a roughly 114% chance of a car being delivered every day to achieve 8 cars/week. To achieve this, I see two avenues, I can either create a need for 8 tank cars with a random value of 15: Or, I could create the demand for three tank cars, two with a random value of 50 and another with a random value of 15: My question is, is this going to work the way I think it will? |

Mike,
? Give each train a departure time. JMRI will list them in that order. Gordon Spalty |
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýBobArgument b3 about email inbox clutter show a lack of understanding for the tools available in Thunderbird.? With a minute's effort, once, your inbox need never be cluttered.? See my previous comment on this thread. As for fb, I agree; I've lost track of every rr-related group that migrated to fB.? Utterly useless for support-related group work. This is your "go-to" please for JMRI.?? Benefits:
a.? High quality content - JMRI developers and maintainers are here b.? You have choices on how to get the content:?? 1) no email at all, you will need to come here to view and post 2) Daily Digest email - one email around 6 am EST with everything posted the day before (this is how I participate),? 3) one email for every post, that would seriously clutter up my inbox in Thunderbird. c.? It isn't Facebook, nuff said about that d.? You aren't the product, no ads, etc e.? The participants are genuinely interested in helping others and the environment is not toxic (thanks to the moderators). Now if the Western Maryland railway group would move here, sadly they left Yahoo groups and went to FB.? Bummer. Bob M. |

Hi Mike
In "Edit Train"? you can set a Departure Time.? In "Trains" one can build the train then print the switch list and then issue it to the crew at the correct time.?? Peter L-J |

Re: Cannot get Throttle to open with Digitrax DCS50
Thomas,
You might want to check your JMRI "Preferences"->"Defaults" settings. You might have the "Throttle" setting configured to use the "Internal" throttle manager rather than the "LocoNet" throttle manager. Regards, Billybob |
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýBobStay here.? Don't know what email client you have (outlook, thunderbird, ???) but almost all decent email software provides filters, or rules (the terminology varies).? Set up a rule to route all emails with [jmriusers] in the subject to a subfolder.? Mine is a subfolder called trains-JMRI.? Your inbox won't clutter, and when you're in the mood you can see all recent JMRI traffic.? Your email software may also provide a 'threaded'? or 'topic' view, in which all emails identified with a particular topic are grouped for your perusal. Blair On 2019-09-28 16:07, Robert Schworm

Bob,
As pointed out already, that is NOT part of this group. This is the "Official" JMRI users group. If you are getting too much email, consider changing to digest mode or no email and read the group messages online. Not a patch on this group. I'm on their sometimes, where my most useful comments are on average to join this list and ask the question here. There's been a lot of misinformation spread there, that even I can spot - and I'm far from being an expert. Wouter On Sat, 28 Sep 2019 at 21:07, Robert Schworm <rkschworm@...> wrote:
