Locked Re: path speeds between signal masts

Andy,

The "path speed" is the lowest speed for the assigned turnouts and blocks.

The block speeds are set in the Block table entries. ?You can see the speed of each block in the Speed column. ?The speed for a specific block can be changed. ?The "Speed -> Defaults" menu item can be used to change the default speeds. ?Unless changed, the default speed will be Normal.

Turnout speeds for each turnout are set in Turnout table entries. ?The speed values are normally not shown. ?Select "Show Turnout Speed details" to see the speed columns or edit the turnout and select the Speed tab. ?Turnouts have two speeds, one for the Closed state and one for the Thrown state.
The default turnout speeds can be set using the "Speeds -> Defaults" menu item. ?I normally set the default thrown speed to Medium. ?That works better for the signal systems that I use.

The "path speed" is used to select an aspect from the "aspectMapping" list. ?Here is an example:

??? <aspectMapping>
????? <advancedAspect>Clear</advancedAspect>
????? <ourAspect>Clear</ourAspect>
????? <ourAspect>Limited Clear</ourAspect>
????? <ourAspect>Medium Clear</ourAspect>
????? <ourAspect>Slow Approach</ourAspect>
????? <ourAspect>Restricting</ourAspect>
??? </aspectMapping>

If the next aspect is Clear, there are five choices for the current signal mast. ?The selected aspect will depend on the path speed and route type.

Note: The route type is Normal if ALL turnouts are closed or diverging if ANY turnout is thrown.

Can somebody explain how path speeds get set between signal mast in the signal mast logic table please. i seem to get "normal", "restricted" and "not set" in my table and I have no idea why! I need to sort these speeds out for auto train running.
thanks

Julian,
If your RPi is network-accessible from your Windows PC, you might find it easier to use the Roster page in the JMRI web server to drag and drop your roster and image files. Make sure you drag and drop the image file first, then the .xml file. You can do these one at a time and the roster index is updated automatically.

Thanks all for such a helpful response.?
Allied to this could I double check something??
If I export a roster entry the image doesn¡¯t go with the export. Is this expected behaviour??
Background: I setup my locos on a test track with Windows. When done I export that loco¡¯s entry to my RPi that runs my main layout. I currently have to transfer the roster export file and the picture jpg separately and then import the roster entry on the Pi and then add the picture.?

John,

By "versions" do you mean with the same file name or a different name? ?The "backupPanels" directory process only occurs when doing a store with the same name.

Looking at some recent downloads, it appears that you change file names frequently. ?These are manual versions.

Dave,?
The most recent file in the Backup files is dated August 20. I saved 17 versions after that one but none of those appear in the Backup files. Is the August 20 file the only option??

Hello;
?
Thank you for the stack trace, a little googling seems to indicate that this is a JVM issue.
?
As a workaround I'll add a way to popup a regular file chooser menu.

It should unset the environment variable WAYLAND_DISPLAY and executes the command. This should, in most wayland Implementations, force the use of Xwayland.?
I am still unsure of which java versions and Implementations understand wayland.?

John,

You accidentally saved the LocoNet monitor log to the name of the layout xml file.

You will need to use a previous version of the xml file. ?If you normally do a store with replace, a previous version will be in the backupPanels directory.

That file is not a valid panel file. It's not an xml file at all. Its contents are:

Should I use Logix or LogixNG? ?Since there is no prior usage of either I¡¯m assuming the better choice is LogixNG, it being the current rendition.
You can choose either Logix or LogixNG. I personally choose Logix, because my signaling solutions _need_ to support older JMRI versions of some of my users. LogixNG has had an annoying challenge of using new XML constructs as newer LogixNG solutions have been introduced, making it difficult for me to support older JMRI versions.

Does Logix replace all the SML assigned to that particular mast? ?Or perhaps it operates alongside and augments SML?
Augments. SML calculates its Aspects. Much of the time, the SML-calculated Aspects are just fine, and are "left alone". But not every time. The Logix which I provided deals with _one_ route thru the interlocking. It is sensitive to the SML-calculated Aspect(s) (that I dont want!) for the specific _route_, and calculates new a new Aspect for that route.

If SML produces multiple "wrong-for your situation" cases, then you may need multiple Logix (or LogixNG) conditionals; at least one conditional per "route". In this particular interlocking, I have multiple Logix "overrides" on SML, because I was unable to "force" SML and "speeds" and "special, user-defined" aspects to solve every "odd situation".

For example, I have an "Over-and-back" signal for the same "route" but in the opposite direction.

?If I am reading your example correctly, Logix is looking at the aspect SML is displaying for mast M134 Main EB, combining that with other turnout and sensor states, then overriding SML to force the desired aspect on mast M134 Main EB.
Correct.

John P,

In the debug menu is a command to test a XML file. It will give a
cleaner error about which line caused the issue.
