Re: Interchange track question

Sorry to be so much trouble. I was able to highlight all of the text in the build report and select copy.
I don't see a way to paste it here. Control p only brings up a print screen. I know this is not the place to learn how to do these things so l will try to figure it out. I don't want to waste anyone's time. Hopefully I can post the build report soon. Thanks again for your help. |

Operations
After reading the operations manual i dont understand what happens to a car which has a final destination entered in its entry in the cars database after it reaches that destination. How does it get reused??
Also if i want train 1 to bring a car to a yd and train 2 to deliver it to a industry can i build both trains at the same time or must i terminate train 1 before building train 2. tony |

car numbers---setup
#operationspro
Hi everyone, Just beginning to st up JMRI and was wondering if you need to actually put in car numbers or just use the type of car. I am running N scale and would rather just? put a type of car instead of looking for a specific car number. Thanks in advance, Mike

Re: decoder pro showing idle
Have you checked Device Manager in Windows to check that the Locobuffer is actually seen and working as far as Windows is concerned? plug/unplug a few times and watch that it appears and disappears and is not marked with a yellow warning, and also note the Com port. ?Get that right first, if the Locobuffer isn¡¯t registering with Windows no amount of uninstalling and reinstalling JMRI will have any effect at all. |

Re: Error 303
Ross,
Good Morning. The previously successfully read decoder was the BLI Paragon 3 and the programming track was attached to the PR3. I did not change the preferences. It has/had worked in both locations. I didn't know there was a suitable preference and never gave it a second thought. Admittedly, the only Preference I ever changed was the File Location. I honestly don't remember why I changed it. The USB port has not changed. I checked the port in Device Manager and all is well with the drivers and it recognizes the PR3 though it doesn't use that name. JMRI 4.18 has worked for the BLI and other locomotives as well as previous versions. Thanks for your help. -- Richard Richter |

Use the link I gave you to use the text editor and set the build report in very detailed.? Then open the build report and select the text you want to copy,? which is the entire build report, then use control copy, which is the c character.? Then paste into your reply using control paste which is the p character.

Thanks for your help, Dan. Unfortunately I don't know how to copy and paste the build report here. I took a screenshot of it but don't see a way to attach it to the reply.
I will check out those links. |

Please copy and post the build report so we can help you.? You have the option in OperationsPro to use a text editor when viewing the build report, that makes it easier to just copy the text and post it here.? Note that you can't append the report to a post, only copy and paste.? Please provide the entire build report for the train in question.

Re: Interchange track question
#operationspro
Not sure what information in the build report is germane but the only thing that ended in an exclamation point was the following:
"Requested cars (8) for train (DeCoy Local) the number available (1) building train!" The route for this train has 4 pick ups at interchange since that is the number of cars that fit in the industries. It has 8 moves (picks and sets) at the industries so all cars will be switched at the industries and then there are 4 set outs at the yard where the train terminates.? There is currently one car on the interchange track (DeCoy-1) and no cars at the industries (DeCoy-2). I expected the program to have the car picked up from the interchange track and delivered to the industry that accepts that car type but that's not what's happening. I left the move count set to 50 on my staging tracks but there are never 50 cars on my staging tracks. The program still has me pick up all the cars that are on a staging track. Perhaps interchange tracks work differently? If you need any other info from the build report let me know and I will try to get it. Thanks |

I had the same problem as Andre over a year ago and gave up on trying to fix it. ?Now I've seen this thread I thought I'd try again. ?
Which are the "preferences for programming" that you're refering to, SwissChris? ?I've checked my Decoder Pro preferences and can't see anything that seems special for programming. Thanks, Les |

Hi, Andre.
I have had the same problem, using DCC++ ?through an Arduino mega with genuine Arduino motorshield and ethernet connection. ? G-scale locomotives (2xLGB Stainz & 1xBachmann tram). ? I can't even read the CVs, nor write new values. ? Can you say what tests you performed that resulted in everything working? Thank you. |

Re: Using VSDecoder with multiple configuration profiles
#vsdecoder
Hi Mike,

It was Mark Underwood who came up with Virtual Sound Decoder (VSD) in 2011. I appreciate VSD very much and have been a "contributor" for about 3 years. Of course JMRI allows the sharing of resources between multiple JMRI configuration profiles. It's important to know the resources. The VSD files (which you call "locomotive profiles") are basic for VSD. If you add a new JMRI configuration profile, you are ready to go. By default, multiple JMRI configuration profiles have the same shared location for VSD files. Just launch the "VSDecoder Manager", then click on the "Add Decoder" button, enter an DCC address and load a VSD file. So far you don't need a Roster. JMRI Roster Entries are another resource to be considered. It's a good help to setup VSD for auto-loading VSD files. This saves a few mouse clicks. Roster Entries are not shared between multiple JMRI configuration profiles by default. But you can set the roster location to look in another JMRI configuration profile. You don't need to move the Roster. Please see the documention at Further helpful documentation pages: Thanks for providing the error log. I'll take a look at it. Re: Operations: won't swap my loaded coal hopper with empty one.
#operationspro
Mike, What if you list Hooker Furniture twice on your route?? First with pickups only and second with setouts only.? Also, if this is an everyday occurrence reserve space (separate track definition one car length + 4') on your float C/I track that only accepts coal hoppers.? That would prevent the return train from using that space for another car. Dave... |
