Re: DecoderPro &ESU LokSound Factory reset
Frank in Houston
OK DAVE, I will do it. ?THANK YOU AGAIN....I switched from Paged Mode to Direct mode. ?(Yes, much, much faster). ?Next, I placed the Atlas locomotive on the program track. ?I then used "Read Type from Decoder" and DecoderPro identified the manufacturer as ESU...however DecoderPro then highlighted about 80 % of the listed Decoder types. ?So I chose "LokSound Select OEM" and then used READ Full Sheets on the CV pane and all seemed to work just fine except the horn. ? ?It does not work when I push the Botton. On all previous attempts I used "LokSound Select"....and the horn worked.
?I am using the Digitrax system with a Windows computer and the very latest (4.17.3) JMRI. ? I have searched thru the DecoderPro options and cannot determine what needs to be done to make the horn work. ?I would really appreciate your help with this problem. ?I really like those Atlas GP-7 locomotives. ? I purchased this locomotive as a new unused locomotive but I noticed the attached paperwork refers to a "Quick Start Guide Version 1.7. ?20 November 2013. ?THANK YOU.....Frank |

Re: Can I have two points with the same DCC address on a control panel?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýYes, that¡¯s the ¡°layout editor¡±.?? ? The ¡°Layout Editor¡± was, originally, for setting up the logical connection of track, turnouts, signals, blocks, etc..? In being a logical editor, which understood
track connectedness (hence the red/green squares), it could automatically add rules, such as signals changing aspect based on turnout direction, or track occupancy. ??? ? The ¡°Panel Editor¡± (and its close brother the ¡°Control Panel Editor¡±) provide full graphical control over a panel, you can put whatever you want on a panel, any number of times.? All the graphical elements can be replaced with your own if you wish.? But any rules about how two items (eg. a turnout and a signal) relate to each other have to be described elsewhere.? ? ? It is legitimate (and sometimes very sensible) to use both; the layout editor to setup all the rules for signalling and track, and the panel editor to produce the actual panels to be used by operators.? ? ? -????????? Thank you for your thoughts. Checking the BIOS settings is a good hint. Hadn't thought of this angle. All indications from Device Manager are that the drivers are properly installed and operating; no indication of any 'mystery device.' I'd checked this before calling Dick and again with Dick. Also checked after re-installing the drivers. I'm confident the '3rd party' Dick has on the RR-CirKits web site didn't leave a 'stuck driver.' Dick uses this for the more common situation of a user not fully installing the drivers. We used it here as a 'last-ditch' effort just in case; we were already quite certain I'd correctly installed the drivers (as I've done many times for both myself and others.) Dick's customer service is 'over-the-top,' amongst the best I've seen in any business. He and I are both baffled by this; something we've never seen. We both hope to learn something that will help others. Ross -----Original Message-----

Dave,
So since it held it as a plain string, the normal bean name change notification misses this. I wonder if there are other holes like this? I can understand some cases where one line scripts are used as actions in Logix, those would be strings and no way for code to know about them. -Ken Cameron, Member JMRI Dev Team www.jmri.org www.fingerlakeslivesteamers.org www.cnymod.com www.syracusemodelrr.org |

Re: restoring sensors and blocks
Thomas,
Have you tried to talk to the TD boards? I presume you have roster entries from programming them? So do they respond? On the main page of the config for each board is an option that sets if the board should respond to the GPON. If those are set, you should see all of the sensors and turnouts after the startup. Since it is a standalone LocoNet, you may need to manually trigger that. It's been a long time and I don't recall the right trick right now. But if you can't talk to the boards with ops mode programming, that's a clue they could be dead. -Ken Cameron, Member JMRI Dev Team www.jmri.org www.fingerlakeslivesteamers.org www.cnymod.com www.syracusemodelrr.org |

Re: DecoderPro &ESU LokSound Factory reset
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýFrank,
There are at least three vastly different families of ESU decoder in recent OEM models; V4/Select, Essential Sound Unit and V5. While some CVs are in common many hundreds are not. You MUST use Read Type From Decoder to get it right. And don't use Paged Mode. Some systems will fail trying to read these decoders correctly in Paged Mode. Dave in Australia |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýTHANK YOU AGAIN DAVE.Question please. ?Since I already selected the model of the decoder for this new Atlas GP-7 (I used ¡°LokSound Select¡±) from the listing of available ESU decoders AND downloaded all of the CV¡¯s from this new locomotive using ¡°LokSound Select¡±, (it took about two hours)¡. IS it to late to use NEW LOCO¡ª>READ TYPE from Decoder and start all over again? ?(Then again download all CV¡¯s from the locomotive?)? ?I am sure some CV¡¯s used by the locomotive were missed by ¡°LokSound Select¡± as the Atlas instructions that came with the locomotive suggested changing some CV¡¯s which I could not find using ¡°LokSound Select¡±. Thank you. ?I appreciate your help as I am really trying to get this correct. |

Thanks for your reply Nick. When I do as you suggest clicking on "File" gives a drop down menu with just two items which are "Store panels" and "Delete this panel". Does that mean I am using the Panel Editor?

Re: multi decoder control
Jim,
On 2 Aug 2019, at 7:30 AM, Jim Kirwan via Groups.Io <cact25@...> wrote:That is the intention of that tool. It only works with decoders implementing CV15,16 locking as per NMRA S9.2.2. But since it was written, many decoder manufacturers have changed/differing parameters, including the range of valid lock keys (some accept 0-7, others 0-255), unlock keys (some use 0 as a universal "master unlock" key, others treat 0 as a valid "lock" key). Furthermore, some manufacturers use a bit in a third unrelated CV as a lock enable/disable. The current situation is that we are aware of the limitations of the current JMRI multi-decoder support, but rewriting it to be manufacturer-specific is no easy task and has drifted to the back-burner due to other pressures. Re: Versions 4.16 & 4.17
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýMarc, Interesting: The simple fact of starting DecoderPro, doing absolutely nothing to any roster entry, Closing DecoderPro. The ROSTER folder? in the The?"Roster Location" should always point to a folder containing?the?"roster.xml" file and the "roster" folder. So there is some manipulation going on in the background. Every time JMRI opens, the contents of "roster.xml" is read into memory. Every time JMRI closes the existing "roster.xml" is renamed?"roster.xml.bak" and?a fresh copy of "roster.xml" is written. This is regardless of whether or not any changes have been made. Entries in the?"roster" folder are only updated if things like group membership or user fields were changed in the session. So for a simple open/close JMRI, only?"roster.xml" should change and the timestamp on the?"roster" folder should not change. If it does, that indicates a likely configuration error. Re: restoring sensors and blocks
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýTom, First go to the LocoNet drop down list and select 'Monitor LocoNet Stats.'? (4th item) It should show three boxes with the firmware revision, breaks, and errors. That tells you that the LocoNet and LocoBuffer-USB are setup and working OK. Only if that reports OK should you start looking in other places. If that test shows a long row of empty boxes, then something is still not setup or working correctly. Dick :) On 8/1/2019 11:19 PM, Tom Cain wrote:

The target for a memory to memory copy is a string field which contains the destination memory name. It appears that there is no provision for a named bean handle so the name change is not recognized. Dave Sand On Aug 1, 2019, at 7:43 PM, Ken Cameron <kcameron@...> wrote: |
