FW: Panel hardware
Mark Juett
Billybob,
You are correct in that Mike B does not provide much electronics. His forte is the casted metal levers and plates. Likewise Rick R provides the molded plastic reproduction parts. They do however, recommend parts that you can buy from most electronic suppliers. Several years ago Rick suggested the Alpha 10YD062 rotary switch available from www.Mouser.com It has been replaced by 105-SR2511F-62FN. Unfortunately the min on this is 1000. Although the cut over is at 30 degrees it is a multi-position and 2 clicks get 60 deg. Not perfect. However, the 105-SR2511F-62FN is a Grayhill single deck 2 position SPDT, rated at 200 ma, 28V, DC 115VAC, with a 60 degree rotation. Only $11.58 in single quantities. From there prices go up. It has a lug connection but not easily soldered. The data sheet shows a solder lug style available. For controlling signals you will need a 3 position switch. Grayhill 105-SR2511F-62FN is similar in a 3 position. Same price. I have not taken the time to do an exhaustive search of Mouser to find the perfect match but it may be there amongst the many parts that they have. If you come up with something let us know. As I get some time I will search, as I have plans to build a reproduction CTC machine (USS&S). Mark Juett From: jmriusers@... CTCParts.com specializes in the "plates" one uses on a CTC machine. This is where Mike's product offerings excel. In general, Mike doesn't offer much in the way of electronics things like rotary switches, pushbuttons, or lamps. One exception is a pushbutton which mimics the "feel" of a US&S pushbutton. What are the alternatives? For these "common" electronics components, your best bet is likely to be a general-purpose electronics supplier. In the US, some suppliers include Mouser.com, Digikey.com, All-electronics.com. Rotary switches with 60 degree rotation (for US&S machines) or 90 degree rotation (for GRS machines) can be tough to find off-the-shelf. They do show up occasionally. And Mouser and Digikey have often "mis-cataloged" a manufacturer's parts as 30 degree when they really were 60 degree or 90 degree, so it helps to spend the time looking at manufacturer's specs for the various part numbers cataloged by the supplier. Last time I looked, Digikey and Mouser did not have any stock for 60 degree-indexed switches, but could provide 60 degree rotary switches for orders of 2000 parts. Tomar Inc., of Benton Harbor, MI, provides (or provided) some cast-brass inserts which can be used in some "open" styles of commercial rotary switches to convert a 30 degree-indexed rotary switch to 60 degree indexing or 90 degree indexing. Tomar also has produced US&S-like "knobs", but I think that they no longer produce the knobs. An alternative is to purchase "Alpha" brand enclosed 30 degree-indexed rotary switches, and modify for 60 degree or 90 degree indexing. I've done this by filling in one or two consecutive "indents" in the rotary switch shell with epoxy. The trick is to open the thing without losing the spring or ball-bearings. And to put the spring and bearings back into the shell and reassemble it, without losing the parts. I do not have any particular recommendations for lampholders/bezels/lenses or for pushbuttons. Re: New Version. 4.8 HELP
Can anyone tell me if there is a way to run two versions of jmri. My present version is working but later versions give me problems so I have not updated in a while.
Can i install the latest version of jmri without damaging or over writing the existing version. Using a Mac book pro using the mac version and windows xp version using parallels. Re: Odd problems with latest test version 4.9.1 Windows 10
John,
The 4.9.2 test release will include the layout block "metric" fix along with the duplicate NX manager fix. This means that when you select the EntryExit tool in Layout Editor it will show the current NX definitions. Using a development version of 4.9.2 I created a complex NX situation. I have a demo panel with a passing siding. I routed an eastbound train into the siding. I then routed a westbound train on the main from end to end. This required stacking at the west end turnout. I then routed another westbound on the main up to the west end turnout. This created a second stack. I then routed the eastbound out of the siding which created a third stack. I was able to perform the movements of the 3 trains using sensor buttons to simulate occupancy and the turnouts and signal masts behaved as expected. I did some research on the double cross-over block routing problem. A double cross-over can have 1 to 4 blocks assigned. My policy has always been to assign two blocks which map to the straight routes. If I assign 4 blocks, then the impossible block routes are not created. With 2 blocks, the level crossing in the middle of the double cross-over provides two connections to the straight block which results to two routes, one good and one bad. I will create a Git Issue for this situation. In the meantime, there are three options. The easy one is to manually delete bogus signal mast logic and NX pairs caused by the bad routes. The second option is to gap the double cross-over to have 4 sections each with an occupancy sensor. The third option is to use 4 blocks on the panel with virtual occupancy sensors that are controlled using Logix based on 2 real sensors coming from the layout. This one has issues with automation because automatic train running depends on the sensors activating in the proper sequence based on train direction. Dave Sand |

Re: JMRI locks up
This is our current trouble shooting knowledge for Sprog: SPROG
Verify connection. Main menu bar should have SPROG. Click on SPROG, then "Get SPROG Firmware Version". You should see something like"SPROG II USB v.x". If you get "Timeout talking to SPROG" you do not have connection. For programming the System manufacturer in the JMRI Preferences file needs to be set for SPROG DCC and SPROG as the System connection to program decoders. (If the System connection is set to "SPROG Command Station" you can control up to 16 locomotives, but may only "program on the main".) With no loco on the track, open the `Service-Mode" programmer, and click the "Read type from decoder." The bottom of the screen should display "Stopping due to error, No locomotive detected (301)." If you short the programming track you should see "Found mfg -1 version -1; no such manufacturer defined". Also on the bottom you should se a 309 error. Updated 201611213 Walter71342 |

Mine LI-USB-Ethernet also came up with a port of the form cu.usbmodem####, so that is the one you should use. You should also see a tty.usbmodem1411. That is the same device as cu.usbmodem1411. To the best of my knowledge you can choose either of these. After you start JMRI, open the preferences. On your LIUSB configuration, click the "advanced options" checkbox. Set the "LIUSB connection uses" option to "no flow control". Save and restart the preferences. That should get you up and running. Paul |

Look at www.ctcparts.com for cast metal reproduction parts which I intend to use for my next panel.
Also rixproducts has molded plastic reproduction parts. Which I have used. Mark Juett Ace Services LLC Your First Choice www.modelrailroadbuilder.com On Aug 6, 2017, at 7:37 PM, Gerald Michels gjmichels53@... [jmriusers] <jmriusers@...> wrote: [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |

(OPERATIONS) RUNNING TWO JMRI PROGRAMS ON ONE COMPUTER
Dan B, or other members.
I have two layouts with one running JMRI panel Pro for operations on my "C" drive. However, my computer also have a second hard drive (D drive) that I have been using for storing videos. Can I install a second JMRI Panel Pro on the D drive and use it for the second small layout or will it conflict with my JMRI on the "C: drive. What approach should I use to install it on the "D" drive and is there any thing to be aware of. Thanks James Allen jcallen1@... |

Thanks, Dan. I've maintained VBA code across various versions of Excel before, so I know your pain. I'm not at the point of using JMRI and these extensions yet, but it's good to know it's a living app, not a dead-end effort.

Yes the 240 is updated with the latest firmware. One of my roles at the club is updating firmware. All our devices; LNRP, UR92, DCS240 and the 400 series throttles are updated. I also will update any club members personal items. David Klemm ________________________________ From: jmriusers@... <jmriusers@...> on behalf of Richard Neibert neibertrichard@... Re: (OPERATIONS) SWITCHLIST PRINTING
Whoops, I skipped this message. Actually there are two different Excel Apps
for each Manifest version, if you follow that. One is for Excel 2007 or older (back to 2000) and the other is for Excel 2020 and newer (up through Excel 365). In MicroSoft's infinite wisdom, that made some significant changes to VBA or internal parameters that made the original code non-functional in the later versions. But both App versions of each of the nine Manifest versions have been tested and function. *Dan (Choo-Choo)** Foltz* *?* *"?A bad attitude is like a flat tire. Re: (OPERATIONS) SWITCHLIST PRINTING
Just to make sure, Manifest Creator and all of it's "offshoots" will run on
*any* version of MS Excel/Windows beginning with Excel 2000. So you can use Excel 2000 or NEWER. Also there are currently nine (9) different versions / formats to select from. This includes car images included with the manifest, two column manifests, Freight Bills and Empty Car Cards, and what some call more prototypical Train Lists, Switch Lists, and Train Orders. One of these versions mimics JMRI's (Dan B) standard manifest, but "*might*" provide additional flexibility. My current time is spent in an attempt to "corral" the coding so that my maintenance chores can be reduced. It seems as if I work like the old saying "the squeaky wheel gets the grease". So get in touch with me and we will see what can happen. NOTE: It is a GOOD THING that Dan B is much more dedicated that I am. But if you are willing to be in my environment for the time being, I welcome you aboard!!! NOTE: Not all nine versions support both JMRI Manifests and Switch Lists. Originally there was not a call to create the JMRI Switch Lists but with newer versions, the Switch Lists portion is part of the "*package*". *Dan (Choo-Choo)** Foltz* *?* *"?A bad attitude is like a flat tire.
