Don,
I use the following adapter from Amazon on Steve's RPi images. No driver required. I like the small profile. I do not use EasyDCC, but I am sure it would work just fine. I have used these for several custom programs on Windows and Linux (Raspberry Pi).

Unlikely. The LNWI implements the WiThrottle protocol for wireless phone -based throttle apps. It doesn¡¯t implement Loconet on the air. ? The WiThrottle protocol doesn¡¯t do anything other than run trains.

Absolutely yes.

this happens with sound decoders but this is not a sound decoder. Program could not recognize the decoder. Used manual selection.
If you don't have a motor connected or if the motor driver part of the decoder is damaged, you can't read CVs. See below.

is there anyone knowledgeable about the decoders electronic design.
can the decoder have a command station power output from the dcs100 rail terminals as a powered on input to the decoder while the decoder¡¯s output wires do not have a motor load connected to them. Will that condition destroy the decoder or is its output protected from this condition happening.
That won't harm the decoder, provided you don't short the motor leads to the track, loco frame or another wire.

If the output voltage going to the motor from the decoder is 15v dc as soon as the command station rail power is powered on with the engine running full speed and uncontrollable by the throttle has the decoder been destroyed.
That generally indicates that the motor driver part of the decoder is damaged.

Using the throttle knob which has the decoders address of 10 set on it and changing speed from 0 to higher number causes the power light to shut off on the command station
That will happen if you have the decoder set to 14 step mode (an obsolete mode). Change to 28/128 mode on the Basic pane.

Open JMRI and go to the Help->Locations menu item. Then click on "Open User Files Location". It will open a window in your computer's File Explorer/Finder and there will be an "operations" folder there. That's the one you need to replace with the folder on the USB.

Restart JMRI and you should be able to see them.

Absolutely yes.

No decoder lets you actually change CV8 (manufacturer ID). That is why it is set as read-only in JMRI.

But attempting to write a specific value to CV8 is used by many decoder manufacturers to trigger a reset. This is handled in JMRI by using the Resets menu visible when you are programming a roster entry. Some decoders allow you to write different values to do full or partial resets and JMRI will give you choices in this case.

In general, decoder resets can only be done on the programming track. However some decoders can be reset with Program on Main and for cases known to JMRI, it can give you an available entry in the Resets menu when using Program on Main.

Richard,
I had an open house last weekend for my local division of the MER. I use two highly modified versions of the back and forth script to run two local trains back and forth on my single track Quaker Valley mainline with a passing siding in the middle. Each script controls a train and has it throw the turnouts to take the siding or main, reverse direction at each end and wait in the siding for the other train to compete the meet. This is all done with simple block detection and timed slow down and stop. The trains stop in the same place on each transit.

I suspect something similar could be worked out for your simple station stop. Especially if it a loop or back and forth route.

What is the absolute easiest way to run a locomotive automatically, stop at a station and start again.
I try but am super confused. I have block detection, the latest version of JMRI. IPad control, MyLayout etc.
I cannot work out signals and masts. I have tried and tried but It just confuses me.
I can control my points on My Layout and have put in LEDs on the monitor that change when the point is switched.
My question is;
At the moment I am playing ?around with dispatcher. Is this where I should be exploring to simply get one DCC locomotive to stop at a station for a minute and then go again?
Thanks
Richard.

Digitrax as probably all decoders have default functions assigned, IE. F1 = Bell.
If i connect something to the F1 pad on a decoder, does that replace the bell?

Locked JMRI overloads a spur

I have a spur ¨C ACME ¨C that holds only one car (47¡¯ long). At the start it has one car in it (a 30¡¯ car). I have two trains ¨C Sawdust Turn and Southbound Throughout ¨C that service this spur. Both trains have a start time of 0. I check the box for both trains on the Train panel and press the ¡°Build¡± button. Upon inspection of the two manifests I found that the Sawdust Turn is scheduled to pick up the car at ACME at 1:16 and the Southbound Throughout is scheduled to set out another car at ACME at 0:55.

The times, of course, are irrelevant because arrival times are indeterminate depending on how much work there is to do along the route and the skill of the operators. In this case, the Southbound arrived first and attempted to set out a car onto ACME spur, overloading the spur.

BTW, when I build ONLY the Southbound, the manifest shows the train picking up the car already on ACME rather than setting out another car thus overloading ACME.

P.S. I¡¯ve saved all the files into a folder called ¡°JMRI overloads a spur¡±.

Anyone help me with this? ?My computer is an Mac (Apple)?laptop and when I talk about moving the icons I mean after building the train moving the train marker from the first location on the route to the next location on the route and so on. This has been working very well for me until this last release as explained above. Following this procedure I eventually get to the last location and the train is terminated.?
I wonder if it could be a setting on the Apple computer itself. I borrowed a friends Apple computer and loaded my JMRI files and did not have this problem. But I can not find anything on my Mac to explain this. Any suggestions would be appreciated. During our operating session my dispatcher uses my Mac to keep up to date on train locations. My Mac is a 2015 ..13 inch (just in case this might make a difference). .THANK YOU. Frank in Houston?

Hi Mike,

First, I can guarantee that you do not have 4.16.2, as it does not exist.

As to your issue, the four digit number is most likely (unless it starts with at least a zero) a long address. If you're trying to set it as a short address, it won't work. But: it's just a guess.

Locked DecoderPro: cannot read/write values with LocoNet connection #loconet

I am having some trouble with Decoder Pro. This is occurring now with two separate command stations, being:
(1) a Digikeijs DR5000; and
(2) a Hans Deloof HDM18C.

Both are connected via USB (albeit not at the same time), and both are configured in JMRI as LocoNet devices, communicating with other items on the layout using the LocoNet protocol (although there are not many other items). I am using the "Direct Byte" programming mode. Whenever I try to read or write any CV value, I get the error,

"Programmer error: Timeout talking to command station (306)".

In the case of reading, this occurs after a long delay. In the case of writing, this occurs after a much shorter delay, but DecoderPro seems to keep retrying a number of times before giving up entirely.

I have confirmed that both command stations work. The DR5000 is able to program on its programming track and main track without difficulty using the Digikeijs software running in a Windows 10 VM on my Ubuntu desktop. It is also able to control locomotives and accessories either through JMRI or the Digikeijs software.

The HDM18C is able to control locomotives with its own software in a Windows 10 VM, and also the throttle in JMRI works without difficulty running natively on Linux. (For the avoidance of doubt, I am not running the Windows VM at the same time as JMRI natively on Linux).

For reference, the Digikeijs DR5000 is connected to a small automation test layout that I built last year. The HDM18C is connected to my main layout, which is under construction. Currently, only the programming track is connected as I have not set up the booster yet. This latter is the one that I am particularly keen to get working, as I plan to retire the test layout as I make progress with the main layout.

If it is of any relevance, both layouts are British N gauge (1:148), and the locomotive that I have used to test the HDM18C is fitted with a Zimo MX617R decoder and a stay alive unit connected via a Zimo SACC16.

I am currently running JMRI version 4.16, having just upgraded from an earlier version (if I recall correctly, 4.10) in an unsuccessful attempt to fix this problem (i.e. the same problem occurred with the earlier version).

I should be very grateful for any assistance. For reference, here is the output of my system console:

Rich, if I¡¯m not mistaken there is an issue with reliability of Read All Sheets.? I¡¯ve experienced this issue my self and my work around is a simple one; if a new loco I let JMRI try to find the decoder, or if I know what type of decoder it is I will manually pick it. Then instead of Read All Sheets, I go to the CV tab and tell it to Read Full Sheet of the CV tab.? This in turn reads all the CVs, which then populates all the sheets.? Once the sheets are populated, the rest of your programming is as usual,? I hope this helps.
