Locked Re: Decoder Pro is exceptionally sluggish

Hi Ken,
Funny you should mention the lack of interest from the vendor, because when I spoke to them on Monday, the responce was, "Why do you want to use JMRI - you can interogate the decoders with the base station, you don't need other software to do this!"
My reply was that I needed to list the decoder CV's the "easy" way and that I needed to remap some of the function keys. And that is all that I want JMRI to do. I'm not interested in controlling anything from the PC, since my railway is a garden layout and at the moment is not running until the weather gets warmer. I am using the command unit with a programming track on my bench for the use of JMRI.
So, running the other features that you have suggested isn't an option, as nothing - apart from a couple of feet of programming track - is connected.

GeoffB,

It is too bad your system is a rare one in the world. It isn't one I've had
much contact with and what I've gathered is the JMRI interaction is minimal
due to limited response or interest from the vendor. It seems much of that
system interface has been done through limited notes and reverse
engineering.

But your note sounds like the install is hanging in the last step, where is
it building the uninstall details.

I'd like you to try doing other options than reading decoders. I'm thinking
if there are options for running a throttle, changing features of the
command station, operating turnouts, etc... Goal here is trying to see if
you can do anything with the command station. This will isolate if the issue
is just the programming track or if the issue is any communication to the
command station.

Locked Re: Decoder Pro is exceptionally sluggish

Hi Dave,
As I stated in an earlier reply, I closed any AV's, etc and did a clean install. Sorry to disagree about the registry, but there are lots of JMRI file/entries in the registry, all of which I have removed. Until I did this, there was legacy of the former installation, which stopped me getting a clean install. Clearing all from the registry got rid of all issues that way.
Yes, I did download a fresh installation from the source you have suggested.

JMRI doesn't use the registry. The NSIS installer would make an entry in the installed programs list.

You need to disable your virus protection while installing it. Make sure you get a good download from

Yes, as I said in a reply to Dave, I have completely uninstalled everything jmri - and gone completely through the registry. The Java is the latest one. When I installed the jmri, it goes as far as "Instlled - jmri uninstall" and then hangs. Everything seems to load OK when I start up jmri - including looking for a connection to the command sation. It's just that when any request is sent to the ZTC 611 unit nothing comes back - the errors are 303 and 311.

Locked Re: Lockup of JMRI

Dave,

?

Thanks for your response.

?

To clarify, is thetimeout due to the NCE command station or to JMRI?

?

It is interestingto me that JMRI ran well for the 3 hours to the end of the OS after I restartedthe laptop and JMRI, even though the number of trains and activity level waspretty much the same as before the lockup.?I could not restart only JMRI because the com port was open and I do notknow how to release it other than restarting the laptop.

?

Do you have anythoughts on what I can do to keep from having the lockup problem?

Locked Re: WiThrottle viewing turnouts

I suspect there may be some users who do not create and load a panel file to
preserve the turnouts (and user names if created). LocoNet for example will
learn the turnouts from many of the devices (that have a LocoNet connection,
not track connection) without load a panel file. But the timing is
different. The learning starts late enough in the sequence that the throttle
service might start before all turnouts are learned. Using a panel file, you
can control the startup sequence by loading the panel first and then
starting the throttle server. So you are insured that everything is known.

Sometimes some devices don't respond in time during the discovery, so they
might get missed. Same if everything is powered on before starting JMRI. But
if you load the panel file, everything is known from the file. I strongly
suggest the use of user names. And if you have many of them, consider using
the separator char in the name. Then the phone will group them for you by
the prefix. I find it very handy to only have to pick from a short list of
turnouts (no scrolling needed most of the time) by picking the prefix (town
usually) from the pull down. Makes it very quick and easy.

Subject: [jmriusers] Re: WiThrottle viewing turnouts

All,

The "Show Only Turnouts with Usernames" predates the filter and selection logic now available in the WiThrottle window on the JMRI side. It remains in place to keep existing setups working the same.

In current versions of WiThrottle, all turnouts are sent to the client. In EngineDriver, there is a Preference "Hide If No User Name?" which defaults to On. I expect there is a similar flag in WiThrottle app. If you use the Filters, you should disable this "hide" and let the filter settings control what is shown.

However, since David is also having issues with the filter, I suspect he is getting an error on one of his turnout definitions, which crashes the filter logic AND the logic to send the list to the client.

David,
Please check the JMRI System Console for errors, or email me your session.log file (after trying the buttons) so we can see if something is crashing.

Ken/Robin,

Is the behavior I am seeing the new normal? In other words do I need to add names? And if so can it be done from the window in WiThrottle menu or is it done elsewhere?

David,

I just checked on older JMRI 4.7 and 4.8 and I can check Turnouts in the
JMRI WiThrottle Turnouts Filter screen whether or not they have User Names.
The ones that lack User Names do not show up in the Turnouts list in
EngineDriver even though they are checked. EngineDriver allows you to
manually enter a turnout number, and I was able to control any turnout from
EngineDriver by manually entering the Turnout number whether or not it is
checked. So I agree that it is confusing, but apparently the behavior is
that the Turnouts list sent to devices using the JMRI WiThrottle interface
only includes those with User Names.

David,

I think the current software filters out turnouts without user names. Since
many times the un-named turnouts are things like signal lamps and unused
turnouts. I think it will be an option in later versions. But there is a lot
of sense in making user names for the ones you use.

Locked Issues with Win 10 & PR4

Hi!
I am having issues with JMRI.
It is Win 10 & a PR4.
Win 10 is the latest version. Java is at the latest release.
It started today.
When I go to program an Engine, it starts to write CV1, then I get a programmer busy.
It does it this even after a restart.
Help!!

JMRI doesn't use the registry. The NSIS installer would make an entry in the installed programs list.

You need to disable your virus protection while installing it. Make sure you get a good download from

David,

If you open WiThrottle=>Routes & Turnouts and then select the Turnouts tab,
you will see 3 buttons at the bottom. When you click "Include All" all of
the turnouts should get checked. I'm guessing this doesn't work for you
either? Could you tyr this:

Open Help=>System Console. Now click the "Include All" button and see if
any errors show up in the System Console at that point.

Sorry to hear the problem showed up at the open house :( Did you try
closing and restarting the WiThrottle app on your phone by any chance? Just
a thought. Anyway if the problem is reproducible you might want to grab the
JMRI system console output so we can see if there are any errors reported
there.

When you do an uninstall, have you gone looking to make sure all traces of

This is to make sure you have a clean start. Also check that you have the

Locked Decoderpro sound issue

Hello,

I I am having a sound issue with decoder pro. I¡¯m using Windows 7, the very latest version of JM all right to go to pro, DigiTrax PR3, & a Ptb100.

I¡¯ve tried this with three brand new locomotives. To Walters Proto 2000 and an athearn genesis engine. All three are F7 units. All three also have soundtraxx tsunami decoders.

All three had some levels appropriate and adequate one placed on the programming track and up they were powered up. However, when I selected new logo name of the locomotive and put in the address and click save. When I powered up the programming track again the volume level had dropped to almost nothing. This happened with all three engines. Does anyone have any clue as to what¡¯s happening? Am I missing the setting?

I open the comprehensive program and page and click the sound page everything was set appropriately. Then I moved the sound levels page and increased the volumes for the locomotive the belt and the horn to 255. Wrote the page, and the same thing, virtually no sound at all.

Help...

Locked Re: WiThrottle viewing turnouts

David,

If you open WiThrottle=>Routes & Turnouts and then select the Turnouts tab,
you will see 3 buttons at the bottom. When you click "Include All" all of
the turnouts should get checked. I'm guessing this doesn't work for you
either? Could you tyr this:

Open Help=>System Console. Now click the "Include All" button and see if
any errors show up in the System Console at that point.

Robin,

I was only checking the preferences for a WiThrottle. In the window under
the menu WiThrottle I went to Routes & Turnouts. I opened that and no
turnouts were checked.

I have tried to get them checked and cannot.

Robin,

So to recap. Only tested with iPhones as no ones with an Android has been
around when I am here.

I only get User TO and a handful of turnouts instead of our hundred.

I checked preferences under WiThrottle and turnouts are checked.

Below is what I got after starting my throttle.

David,

Sorry to hear the problem showed up at the open house :( Did you try
closing and restarting the WiThrottle app on your phone by any chance? Just
a thought. Anyway if the problem is reproducible you might want to grab the
JMRI system console output so we can see if there are any errors reported
there.

Robin,

At our open house Saturday no one had an android phone so I couldn't see if
it was across both devices.

David,

Hi. Is this problem just when using the iPhone WiThrottle app or does it
happen in Engine Driver also?

We have done something where we don't see all the turnouts. It shows TO User
and about 10 of the hundred turnouts.

I have looked in preferences etc and i am stumped.
