Amazon Studios assumes full control of Bond Franchise! 8
Big news: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c1mn9gz5x3mo James Bond's long-serving producers give control to Amazon The James Bond film franchise will no longer be controlled by the Broccoli dynasty, after long-serving masterminds Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson announced they are stepping down. The Bond films were launched by Albert "Cubby" Broccoli in 1962, before his daughter and stepson took over. The pair will now give creative control to Amazon MGM Studios, which was formed when Amazon bought Bond's parent studio in 2022. The new deal comes after mounting speculation about the fate of the British spy, four years after his last outing in No Time to Die, which was also Daniel Craig's final appearance in the role. Amazon will now decide which actor will take over the famous character, but there is still no timescale for when that that will happen or when the next film will be made.

No more Bond movies? 2
First I'd heard of this: 'James Bond is in a bit of a rut. According to The Wall Street Journal, Bond producer Barbara Broccoli does not trust Amazon, which owns MGM and has the rights to the Bond movies, and she won’t agree to another Bond movie. Broccoli was reportedly unhappy with turnover at the studio and, following her late father’s advice, she allegedly said, “Don’t have temporary people make permanent decisions.” The last straw for her was apparently when an Amazon executive referred to James Bond as “content.” For her it’s personal, not business, and she is apparently unwilling to let Amazon’s entertainment algorithm grind up James Bond and extrude it like it does so much of the rest of Amazon’s content.' https://thespacereview.com/article/4913/1

Legendary Hollywood director lined up for huge role on new James Bond film 2
I'm not sure if this really moves the story on; it's probably just more media speculation but still worth a mention: https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/31553112/steve-mcqueen-lined-up-new-james-bond-film/ '12 Years a Slave director, Steve McQueen, has caught the attention of James Bond bosses. And given his track record on the big screen, I’m not surprised they want in. A source said: “Steve is one of the UK’s best filmmakers and has an incredible vision. “The word is that the Bond producers wanted to see if Steve would ever consider having a hand in one of the films and they got a positive response. “It would be incredible if it came off.” When I reached out to Steve’s representatives to ask if the call I’d had was true, I was stunned to receive a very chirpy “no comment” in response. Considering I was expecting to be stonewalled, I think this tip-off could be on the money. Casting for the role of the next 007, who was last played by Daniel Craig, is also said to have restarted.'

Aaron Taylor-Johnson ‘offered 007 role’ and is ‘set to replace Daniel Craig’ 2
BREAKING: Aaron Taylor-Johnson is set to be the next James Bond, according to reports. Famous for roles in films such as Kick-Ass and Avengers: Age Of Ultron, the 33-year-old actor is apparently yet to officially accept the iconic part, but a source told The Sun: "Bond is Aaron's job, should he wish to accept it." The source added: "The formal offer is on the table and they are waiting to hear back." Eon Productions, which produces the Bond films, is also said to be preparing to shoot a new 007 movie, with a script now being worked on. https://news.sky.com/story/aaron-taylor-johnson-chosen-as-next-james-bond-reports-say-13097868

Producers talk new 007 TV show and reinventing Bond in a post-Craig era 4
From 'The Guardian': It has been two years since Daniel Craig hung up his pistol and Omega watch after the release of No Time to Die. But fans desperate to know who will be the next 007 have a long wait before they are left shaken or stirred. Producer Barbara Broccoli said there is “a big road ahead” before the character was “reinvented for the next chapter”, and that executives “haven’t even begun” the process of modernising the franchise. https://www.theguardian.com/film/2023/oct/21/work-to-reinvent-james-bond-for-post-craig-era-hasnt-begun-yet-says-producer According to 'Screen Rant': It seems that Bond 26 has not even gotten to the point of “get[ting] going on a Bond movie,” meaning the three to four-year development clock has not yet begun. Bond 26 could break a franchise record if Broccoli’s timeline proves accurate. In particular, No Time to Die is already two years in the past. Even if the development of Bond 26 started before the end of the year, Broccoli’s three to four-year range would indicate that audiences would not see a Bond film until at least 2026 or 2027. By virtue of Bond 26 still being pre-development, that release date could soon be pushed out even longer. https://screenrant.com/james-bond-26-movie-development-franchise-record-producer/

SS-GB 2
Hi all, I've been watching SS-GB, the 2017 BBC drama series based on the novel by Len Deighton (which I've never actually read). It's set in 1941 during an alternative timeline where the Nazis successfully invaded Britain. I never saw this mini-series when it was first broadcast but I'm enjoying the DVD immensely! It's more like a spy thriller than a crime drama. Why I am telling you this? Because the screenplay was penned by Neal Purvis & Robert Wade (who also have Executive Producer credits) - the duo repsonsible for every Bond script since CASINO ROYALE (2006). Have you guys seen it? If not, then it's definitely worth a watch! Not much to report on Bond #26. A different actor is linked with the role almost every week! I wonder if Barbara Broccoli will surprise us and deal a name from the bottom of the pack, rather like she did with Daniel Craig all those years ago! Regards, David.

"Cleaning up" Bond 3
Of course, the Fleming novels are politically incorrect by todays standards, and they even caused controversy in their time, but to "clean them up" seems utterly preposterous. Perhaps one could argue that there is point in "cleaning up" some of the children's literature, the like Roald Dahl classics, although I have some doubts there myself, but trying to make James Bond politically correct makes me ask the same questions that you do. Where will they go next? John On Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 03:22:02 AM GMT+1, Douglas Marshall <dougmarshall_94142@...> wrote: I reckon by now you've heard about the plan to go through all of Ian Fleming's books and making them politically correct. I think that might be good if it allowed younger readers to read them. Perhaps as a graphic novel. But I wonder once that is done what books will they go after next? I wonder what motivated this censorship?

Aaron Taylor-Johnson tipped to be next 007 4
Here's the latest name to be linked with the role of James Bond, courtesy of 'The Exploding Pen': We've got some great next Bond gossip here at The Exploding Pen with rumours that Aaron Taylor-Johnson is a top contender to suit up and become the next 007. Taylor-Johnson is best known for being the star of the popular Kick-Ass movies and is now widely tipped to be the next Bond after reportedly taking part in a highly confidential screen test at Pinewood Studios and impressing Bond producer Barbara Broccoli. The British actor has recently been filming the action movie The Fall Guy and was pictured on set in Sydney last week. Could Bond now be in his future filming schedule? At 32 he is the right age for the role as Bond producers have recently said they are looking for a younger Bond, preferably someone in their 30s, like Aaron. In the six decades and 25 movies that Bond has graced the big screen, there have been many contenders for the most sought after role in cinema. Many actors have come close to playing 007 including one of the most famous Hollywood stars of all time – Cary Grant. Grant is best known for To Catch a Thief (1955), North By Northwest (1959) and Notorious (1946). His irresistable charm and good looks made him an obvious choice to play the British spy. The actor had been asked to play 007 in Dr No (the first Bond film) by producer Cubby Broccoli who had the actor as his best man at his wedding. Broccoli had a vision for the James Bond character and thought that Grant - with his talent and versility - could be a perfect match.

James Bond Producers Search for a New 007 Who Will Commit for a Decade 6
From 'Variety': Landing James Bond may be the biggest acting gig in Hollywood, but 007 producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson say they still have to pitch prospective actors on the part. When Variety catches up with Britain’s most famous producers in late August, they’re busy preparing for the 60th anniversary of Bond in October. But the search for a new actor to play the world’s most famous spy is quietly rumbling on in the background. It’s still “early days,” they claim, but whomever lands the role has to be in it for the long haul. “The thing is, it’s going to be a couple of years off,” [Broccoli] notes. “And when we cast Bond, it’s a 10-, 12-year commitment. So he’s probably thinking, ‘Do I really want that thing? Not everybody wants to do that. It was hard enough getting [Daniel Craig to do it].” Wilson interjects: “And he was in his early 30s at the time!” https://variety.com/2022/film/global/james-bond-007-barbara-broccoli-michael-g-wilson-1235378239/

See You In 2025: James Bond producers will take at least 2 years out before filming 4
From 'MI6 HQ': James Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have confirmed that filming for 'Bond 26' is "at least two years away." At the earliest, that means the seventh incarnation of 007 will not make his debut on the silver screen until 2025, possibly later. When asked about the future of the series after Daniel Craig, Broccoli said: “Nobody’s in the running. We’re working out where to go with him, we’re talking that through. There isn’t a script and we can’t come up with one until we decide how we’re going to approach the next film because, really, it’s a reinvention of Bond. We’re reinventing who he is and that takes time. I’d say that filming is at least two years away.”

Why License to Kill was nearly the last ever Bond movie 2
This is from MI6-HQ and it's really interesting. In fact the conclusion chimes with what we often say: Not many long-running film series get to decide when their final entry will be. It’s usually a box-office flop that kills any chance of the next sequel until, years later, a possible reboot. But this was definitely on the mind of producer Cubby Broccoli and star Timothy Dalton when production on ‘Licence To Kill’ was wrapping up. They had run out of Ian Fleming titles and scraped together bits so far unused from the novels. Dalton went so far as to say he felt it might be the last 007 outing in an interview for the film. Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson also cast doubt on the future of the series in a press piece after the film was released but before the long legal action did in fact put them on hiatus for years. Looking back now, is ‘Licence To Kill’ a good bookend for the original unbroken run of films? Bond quits the secret service (for real this time, not just taking some paid leave), to the point where MI6 is trying to get him off the field by any means necessary. All’s well that ends well though, with M offering Bond his job back at the end of the adventure. With Bond putting the phone down on London and jumping in the pool with Pam, in the last draft before the shooting script was changed, it is revealed that she had stashed a chunk of Sanchez’s cash in her plane and the two could run off into the world together. It is a shame that this little character detail was taken out, as if things had worked out differently in the 1990s, this may have been the last Bond film for much longer than the eventual six-year gap. Aside from the maligned winking fish motif, it can be argued that this marks the end of the last chapter of the continuous run of films: 1962-1989. Do you feel this was intentional at the time, or just fans retconning franchise history?

Monty Norman, James Bond theme composer, dies aged 94 3
Some sad news: Monty Norman, the composer behind the iconic James Bond theme, has died aged 94. The news was confirmed on the musician's official website with a brief statement which read: "It is with sadness we share the news that Monty Norman died on 11th July 2022 after a short illness." Norman originally composed music for stage before moving into film with Dr No, the first James Bond production. Norman was asked to compose for the film by famed producer Cubby Broccoli who was impressed by his work in theatre. His Bond theme was repurposed from an earlier composition he wrote for a production of A House For Mr Biswas. The original featured the iconic riff being played with a sitar instead of an electric guitar. The theme has gone on to be used in every one of the 25 James Bond films. Norman also wrote 'Underneath the Mango Tree' that accompanies the iconic Dr No beach scene featuring Sean Connery and Bond girl Ursula Andress. It is a popular mistake that John Barry composed the James Bond theme due to Barry arranging the track. Norman successfully won a lawsuit against The Sunday Times after they claimed he had not composed the song's guitar line. https://uk.yahoo.com/movies/james-bond-theme-composer-monty-norman-dies-94-151757023.html

This Week In Bond (June 14th, 2022)
It is always nice keeping up to date. I had not thought about Tom Cruise and Mission: Impossible in this way before. I liked the original television series from the late sixties and early seventies, and I watched the first couple of films with Cruise. The original concept was inspired by James Bond, but it was based on the twist that it was focused on teamwork, but in the first film all the members of the team died, except Cruise, so it became more like James Bond.
