Re: Access denied

We had issue with Home Depot website yesterday. Husband called store and yes the site is not functional. A store sales person was very helpful to us and suggested the site to give him a good rating, and what we got was a bogus infected notice which is why my husband called. That is no way to run a huge business like Home Depot. He plans to tell the salesperson in person about the dysfunctional info on the receipt. I hope this gets fixed.

I asked Google Bard this question and got this answer:

Yes, you can save all your choices when you move from an old Apple TV to a new Apple TV. Here are the steps you need to follow:

1. On your old Apple TV, go to **Settings > Users and Accounts > iCloud**.
2. If prompted, sign in to your Apple ID account.
3. Turn on **One Home Screen**.
4. Set up your new Apple TV.
5. When you sign in to your Apple ID account on the new Apple TV, it will automatically download your apps and rearrange your Home screen to match what's on iCloud.

**Note:** This feature is only available on Apple TV 4 or later. Older Apple TVs didn't use the App Store, so there's no way to transfer apps or settings from them to a newer device.

Here are some additional things to keep in mind when transferring your Apple TV settings:

* You will need to be signed in to the same Apple ID on both the old and new Apple TVs.
* Make sure that you have enough iCloud storage space to store your apps and settings.
* If you have any custom settings or configurations that are not stored in iCloud, you will need to manually recreate them on the new Apple TV.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Warning in Finder after TimeMachine is finished

Every time I wake up my 14” MacBook Pro running Ventura 13.4.1 ? after a reasonably long sleep time I’m shown warnings like these

The MacBook Pro is backing via up WiFi to 2 different hard drives (they’re RAID drives) connected to my 2012 Mac Pro which is running Monterey.

The RAID drives are shared as TimeMachine volumes from the Mac Pro. Both RAID drives are used by other computers too - one of them is shared with my wife’s MacBook Air M1, and the other (a 14TB RAID) is shared with my wife’s MacBook Air M1, my 13” MacBook Pro which is now my workshop computer, and the MacPro itself.

Has anyone ever seen this, and figured out why these warnings appear?

Thanks

Roger

Migrate to new Apple TV

I have just bought a new Apple TV to replace the old 2015 Apple TV HD. And now I am looking for at way to migrate everything over … my apps my subscriptions etc.

Is there a way to do that or do I have to start from scratch with the new unit?

Kind reghards,

Peter

I’m retired, not a power user and have no need for different or “other” systems. Besides, smart people (Randy & others) are saying that it is highly unlikely that my silicon Mac’s SSD will fail, and even if it does, I won’t be able to use a bootable backup anyway. I’ve just spent way too much time trying to “make it work” and I just don’t need it. Normal backups (I have 2) will have to be sufficient.
I still think that a bootable clone of one's Apple Silicon-based Mac is EXTREMELY useful.

You can't use an external clone to boot an Apple Silicon-based Mac whose internal SSD is dead, because an Apple Silicon-based Mac with a dead internal SSD is simply a dead Mac for all purposes.

But when your Apple Silicon-based Mac's internal SSD dies, you can still use your external clone to:

1. Attach to another Macintosh that supports APFS. In which case you have access to all of your data while your main Macintosh is being repaired (or replaced) and you can use all of the applications that are supported by the OS on the Mac you attach to

2. Boot another Apple Silicon-based Mac, requiring only that you enter the administrator password

3. Recreate your deceased internal SSD exactly as it was onto a healthy empty internal SSD in another Apple Silicon-based Mac

4. Restore all of your data to your Mac once it has been repaired.

To reiterate, if your internal SSD fails in your Apple Silicon-based Mac, you can no longer boot that Mac from a clone backup and keep on working on the same Mac. (Actually, if your internal SSD fails in your Apple Silicon-based Mac, your Mac is completely dead for any and all purposes.) However, a clone allows your data to remain saved and unharmed, useable while your Mac is being repaired, and used to restore your data in your original or another Mac.

History has shown that maintaining a backup (of some sort) of your data is crucial. Of the two types (clone or versioned), I think that a bootable clone is far more useful.

Yes from the Apple Refurbished Store. My 14” MacBook Pro 2023 with M2 Pro chip, 2TB, and 32GB RAM was $2549.

A 15” MacBook Air with 24GB RAM and 2TB prices out at $2599 right now. Take off $200 for 16GB RAM.

I had to have 2TB, and figured that for this to last a long time (my 13” MacBook Pro was 8 years old), more memory was better.

I’m considering the 15”. I did buy a 13” about 3-4 months ago and it a great machine. I found one at the refurb shop with 16gb of ram and 512gb of storage (I don’t need a lot ?of storage on this machine). Great machine, is never hot, and I think a good bargain at the Apple refurb site.

?

The issue with the upgrade to 15 is the price swap. Apple provides little trade-in value on their m2’s. They want to offer less than half-price on a device less than 6 months old.

Am about to order it today and since I like to keep things a long time, until I'm practically forced to upgrade; I want to make a wise choice.

Roger, you certainly got a good deal.
Right now at the Apple refurbished store there is a 2023 14.2-inch (diagonal) 16GB memory 1TB SSD for more than a new 15" Air with 2TB
Thia refurb is $2119 plus. Of course it is 12-core CPU? & 19-core GPU

A new 15" Air with 8GB memory & 2TB SSD is $2099 plus tax, etc. ( $1699 with 1TB)
Wife wants big & light. She doesn't need graphic artist power.

Roger, did you get your refurb. from Apple?

Re: loading background pictures

I load the images as needed, like Al, if I trust the email.?

In a similar vein, on F*c*book, i just got two posts, where someone posted to friends pages, that there was a terrible accident, and to click on a short url to find out what. The sense of urgency was there, but resist. It was a link to a virus.?

The two popped up within a minute of each other.?

The same thing happens on the phone. I’m a senior, in need of assistance, and with medical issues. I have to answer some calls from unknown numbers. I answer with caution. I don’t answer personal questions. My first thought is, am I expecting a call, and the second is what does this stranger trying to scam be out of. If I am not expecting a call, I let it go to VM. My outgoing message is that I don’t answer unknown calls, to leave a message. Most scam calls don’t leave messages, and if the robocall does, I only get part of the message.?

If a human scammer does get me, I am socially starved, so I play with them. They usually hang up on me. Recently, I had an honest number to call them. I called it three times. You should have heard the baloney they were trying to feed me. Finally, the last one said, we don’t sell extended warranties on 23 year old vehicles. I said good, than take me off your list.?
