Recent comments on IC7000 operation w/menus - Ham Radio Deluxe

I have been using Ham Radio Deluxe with my IC-7000 for several years now.? HRD has opened up a world of operating pleasure for me. Just about any operating function is a mouse click away and the display is wonderful. I used the free version first, and have used the $$ version for the past couple years, and just renewed it again. I have no interest $$ wise in the product but felt compelled to write after reading recent comments on a IC7K, It suddenly occured to me that many 7K? owners were not aware of this asset to operating the unit.? ?73 es Stay safe my friends!? I've been using HRD since it was Simon's shareware program in 2002.? I switched over to automatic renewals last year.? But, as I said, I've barely scratched the surface of trying to use it with my 7000.?

I'm fairly certain that one time I tried to use it to change filters and the radio changed mode or something goofy like that, but it has been too busy around here to get into the shack and try out lots of features.?

One of the things I was trying to do early last week was work the VP8 guys split.? To go back and forth between VFOs trying to listen to DX on VFO? and the callers with B and then back to the keyer to press the button sending my call took longer than an exchange and just didn't work.?

I'm just a grumpy OF because I'm used to the big panel on my main rigs ;-)

You can get the same experience with a fantastic FREE suite of programs.? Just Google DXLab Suite.

Here is a Link????

Under the Tab "Getting Started" is a great "Video Introduction to DXLab by Fred AB1OC"?

Do you use DXLab with your IC-7000?? The reason I ask is that the video shows a much more capable rig for the demo, an IC-7800, and the Commander window shows the choice of IC-7800 and IC-9100. Those rigs have USB interfaces unlike the slower CI-V (RS-232 driven) interface that the 7000 has.? A controller can do more with it.

If I was starting from zero, I'd try DXLab first.? Since I've been using HRD for 18 years, I'm inclined to experiment more with it and see if I can get there.??

Back in early '16, I looked at DXLab for about a month to see if I wanted to renew HRD or dump it and start over.? I don't remember all the details from four years ago, but obviously stayed with HRD.

The priority, though, is I have about a month to do my outdoor antenna work and stuff before it gets too hot to be outside except morning and evening.? The radio and software will wait.

Yes, I first used DXLab with an IC-718.? It became a software controlled radio.? I then bought the Ic-7000 (which I still own).? I bought it for a mobile but it was so much better for CW? and contesting (built-in filters and voice keyer) that I brought it? back and forth from SUV to shack a lot.? I then bought an IC-7410 (lacking a lot of features,? sure not the improved version of the 756proIII I was expecting).

Anyway all three rigs used CI-V interface no problem.? I used the IC-7000 on Field Day and with Satellites.?

Last year I used the IC-7410 for FD with the CI-V interface for CW.
For FD I use N3FJP network FD logger (I am a CW op )? The IC-7000 CI-V interface works with SATPC-32 and my old Window 7 laptop.
