Rex, you are so correct. I thought I had read the manual carefully but
completely missed this step/page. I changed it and it now works just fine.

There is a menu setting in the MFJ-929 that has to be set to "Icom" before
it will work. It is described on page 19 of the manual. I got nailed by
that little detail when I bought my MFJ-929 a couple of years ago.
