Driver Board Replacement, adjustments required?

Hello All,
I have a couple of 7ks. ?A newer one works perfectly, as far as I can tell. ?An older one has low output and the driver board is suspect. ?I intend to replace the driver board - new parts and board are on the way.?
My question: ?following the board installation, are the adjustments (as recommended by Icom) necessary or optional? ?A Service Bulletin of Feb/2010 outlines a multi step adjustment procedure requiring equipment I don¡¯t have - that¡¯s the reason for this question. ?
I want to replace the board myself, I¡¯m capable of doing that. ?But the adjustments I cannot do without purchasing equipment at expense. ?
So, ?if the adjustments are necessary, then I might just as well replace the board and send it to Icom to do the adjustments¡ may be cheaper than buying new equipment.
Any thoughts or advice from this group?
Thank you for getting this far ¡.

You can probably skip the drive adjustments and maybe the power output adjustments but you absolutely need to do the idle adjustment. You do need a special set up for the drive (not driver) adjustment. For power out adjustments, all you need to do is saturate the microphone with audio while adjusting the tuning dial.

?

Thank You

Thanks for the feedback Paul.
Very good.
For the idle current adjustment all I need is an rf meter and an ammeter. That¡¯s ok.
For the power adjustments, when you say ¡°saturate the mic with audio¡± - white noise or whistling? Does audio frequency matter, or is it just the volume?
Thanks again.

It¡¯s just volume. Whistle, say a long ¡®fiiiiiive¡¯, white noise; all good. Just drive it as hard as you can. You don¡¯t need an RF meter of any sort to set idle current.

Thank You
