doing FT8

What connector is used for FT8 ACC or DATA?
?
THen where do I get that DATA minidin plug if that's used.

I use the 6 pin mini-din plug (Data port) for FT-8 and other audio card modes.

I use an USB to CIV plug adapter cable for rig control.

The 6 pin mini-din is a standard PS2 keyboard cable.? The connector on the other end needs to match the connector on your sound card interface.

I suspected a PS2 cable I have a few of them from dead keyboards.
?
I use a HB interface with PTT from the computer so simple is what
I do on three other (non-icom) radios.

Allison,

I actually paid a bit for the cable (from West Mountain) that connected the 7K to the RigBlaster¡.

Time is valuable ¨C always fun to roll your own, but¡.

What are good settings for Signalink USB for FT8 and IC7000? (assuming WFJTX)

Paying for hardware is a choice, just like building it.
Being retried I have the time, I do prefer to not spend?
when I don't have to.? ?The connector was the bottleneck
not the computer interface.

13pin ACC has all the connection. Use HSend (hf) for ptt, mod for audio in and AF for audio out. 3.5mm mono (or stereo with tip and body) for cat/c-iv.

A small dc fan at the back blowing air on heat sink fin is beneficial for heavy ft8 use.

Thanks, s21rc

It has been a while, but I think that the 6 pin mini-Din jack will work and not require removing the mike to prevent audio from there being transmitted along with the FT-8 signal.
As I remember it I wired that 6 pin plug to my Signalink USB and it worked well.
?

Edited

I figure using the small din for the PTT (it also cuts off the mic in data mode).
?
The 13pin ACC as I need RX and TX audio for my interface.? I have that plug.
?
I may keep a 12V fan handy, but the radio has the fan mod and runs
generally cool.
?
And Hsend would be useless as I plan for VHF use.
Nor do I use CAT.

I also use the SignalLink with my 7000. I first used it for PSK then, later, found it worked really well for FT8. I bring the power down to 40W or so and it works very well. I never bothered with data ports, etc. I have used this portable in a number of states (on vacation) with good results. When I purchased the SignalLink, I bought the jumpers for Icom. Also, I bought the USB CIV cable.?

Are we trying to sell SignalLinks??
?
I already have a interface box, its compatible with Tentec Eagle, Tentec 6n2,
FT817.? I just have to make up a cable for the box to the IC7000 and would
likely also work for the IC7300 I have.? ?Also my box will switch between
two radios without unplugging and changing cables.
?
If you are happy with the SignalLink great, I've looked at it and it seems
a fine product.??
?
To use a SignalLink and why I will not.? ?I'd have to buy it and
multiple cables with it as they do not do that without specific
cables.? ?That would make the cost for that solution about
200$ give or take and still require cutting a few of them to
be suitable.?
?
That and the computer is not the usual laptop or desktop.?
That is a custom mini-ITX with all the legacy IO possible and
easily configured for audio and PTT keying.? ?FYI I use Linux
as that avoids the winders headaches. Been using FT8 for
over 4 years and PSK31 before that.? Also I do most of
FT8 on VHF, different power settings are needed.
?
So the problem I was centered on is what connector ACC or DATA
on the IC7000 and connectors (plugs) for FT8.? ? I've gotten
contradictory info as well on that.? Thankfully the manual
(user and service) is decent.
