IC7000 Internal Clock Problem

Has anyone else experienced a problem with the clock on the display losing time? After setting the time to WWV, I lose a minute about every two weeks and have to reset the clock. Rig is used as a base station and never used mobile. IC7000 is less than a year old. This there a simple fix for this problem.

I noticed mine is temperature sensitive. ?I have seen it run a bit fast or slow based on whether it was in teh house or the car (in the cold).

I assume the clock is a module Icom bought which means there's likely nothing that can be done to address it. It's not terrible or particularly important to me so I never really worried about it. ?It's fine for general time and I always have a PC available for accurate time. ?

At one point I thought about writing a little utility to grab the time from a connected PC or NTP server and update the clock in the radio. ?The CI-V instructions exist for this (see page 144 in the manual). ?It just keeps landing low on my project list.

It would appear from the thread that more than the rig’s clock is off!

The Manual says the clock may lose a couple of minutes a month and does not suggest what may be done about it – I readjust it when I think of it (Quick set screen) By the way it has a Second clock which you can select – I have it set to Zulu time

Problems with the clock keeping time may be in part due to the clock battery getting weak.

Yes, there is a battery that is only used for the RTC - clock chip. I had one IC-7000 with a battery that failed..To use the clock it had to be set every time you turned on the rig. I gave up on it..? A pain to change the battery.. not worth the bother. My solution was to forget about the clock. I use a cheap little clock, there are lots of them available.

There was more discussion about this in this group in the past, search for more info..

May I suggest a simple solution? Since this is a HF RADIO, how about one tune in WWV or other location-dependent time reference and
synchronize the radio to THAT? If accuracy is what you want, you're only limited by your reflexes and the speed of light. If you
need it to be more accurate, you're in the wrong business!

Did you buy your IC-7K to talk on or to use it as a clock? Very expensive time piece. I think it is time to put this issue to bed. I think it is TIME to scratch your watch and wind you butt.
