display problem

I have an issue with? =the display on my unit and hope somebody can give me some incite.? I have had my 7000 for a couple of years now.? A month or so ago, while operating all of a sudden every time I transmitted my screen got "wavy."? As soon as I stopped transmitting the display went back to normal.? I did a hard reset and it seemed to fix the problem.? Last weekend I had the exact same experience?but this? time doing a hard reset did not correct the problem.? I tried my radio in a couple of other modes and the same thing happened.? Transmit = wavy display.? Not transmitting = wavy display.? My guess is that there is some stray RF getting into my radio but I don't know if that is correct or if it is, what could be causing it.? There are not any new electronics or electrical systems/sources in my home.? Everything is the way it always has been.? Any assistance that?anyone could be provide would be much appreciated.? Thanks, Tom

I would track down shelding. I have seen some talk of checking the spring fenders on shield covers.

I had a WWll signal generator with a pincil tube. It was a constant effort to track down leakage that excaped out the dial window. :-)

First question:

. . . Is the control head separated from the body of the rig?

Second question:

. . . If so, do you have ferrites on the control cable between the two?

Third question:

. . . Have you cleaned the contacts of the control head, the connecting cable, and the body of the rig?

A high-resistance connection, at any pin of the two connectors -- even if the control head is mounted on the body of the rig -- can make everything go wonky during XMIT.

Hello Tom,

I had exactly the same problem that I solved yesterday.

There is a small connector named J2231 on the main unit, next to the internal speaker connector.

This connector carry the video signal to the display unit.

I think you should check this connection by moving it slightly and see what happens on the display.

The shielded wire on this connector is very brittle and the inner wire is made of a single copper wire, so very fragile if manipulated too much.

I my case, because I unplugged and plugged the jack in the connector a lot of times (I had to fix another problem on my 7000) the inner copper wire was broken and these was a bad, intermittent connection that caused the problem.

For example, if you use an antenna tuner plugged to the 4 poles flat connector, plugging and unpluging it can move the connector J2231 and cause the problem (the 4 wires of the 4 poles flat connector run just on the top of J2231 and they move when? you plug and unplug the external tuner¡¯s connector).

I my case, moving the external part of the tuner¡¯s connector caused the ¡°wawy¡± display.

I hope this can help.

Please let me know.
