Re: help using IC-7000 on 60m/solution found
开云体育
Hi all,
Thanks for the replies so far with suggestions.
Looking in the archives I discovered that my s/n is below the number at which 60m became standard on the 7000.
So while the radio stores the 60m frequency, it can't xmit.
So I need to do the mod provided by W3AHL's post
" To enable the new channel on radios prior to serial # 0514455, it is necessary to remove diode D2172 on the Main board.? This opens up the entire 60M band (not just the FCC allowed channels for amateur radio). "
I'm not sure why the original 5 frequencies will not transmit, we'll see if it all works after the? mod, hopefully so.
My friend KN2U has the tools needed to work on surface mount boards and is doing the mod for me.
Thanks to all who replied and 73,

Hello all,
New to the group, and just got my new (to me) IC-7000 today.
Setting it up, got it running fine (years ago I had an IC-706MKIIG and notice the many similarities).
Here's my question.
I want to use the 7000 sometimes on 60m, mostly FT8, so I entered and stored 5.357 (the WSJT-X FT8 frequency) with the HM-151 mic.
OK, so far so good, changing bands it now has added 5.357 as I scroll between 80 and 40.
I key the rig either with my CW paddle, or with the handmic. No TX red LED on the rig, but the red LED on the mic
does light when I press the TX button.
I see on p40 of the manual about operating 60m, it says to set the rig to only the 5 frequencies listed.
I initially tried the first one, 5.33050 but with the same result, no TX on the rig.
What else do I need to do to get it to xmit on 60m?

Re: help using IC-7000 on 60m
Mike live or dead depends on which? jack you are using.
I used the 6 pin jack with a Signalink USB. One of the jacks for the mike leaves it hot and the other is muted.? Right now I forget which one that would be. The Data write up on page 116 of the manual says that when the PTT (pin 3 of the 6 pin DIN plug for data) is grounded the radio transmits and pin 6 of the mike is disconnected. I do not know if that is both the front panel jack or just the one on the rear of the radio. I worked a lot of FT-8 with my IC-7000s before I sold them and never had to disconnect the mike set up this way. |

Re: Scratchy noise on RX
So, this has been a painful journey.? I have dim hope that it is nearing an end, but as is often the case, one can never be sure that an intermittent is fixed, but one can be sure when it has NOT been fixed.? In this case, I got about a week of operation before the fault returned.
I looked at many possible culprits focused mostly on intermittent open conditions (in a via or component).? The speaker amplifier turned out to be a dead-end, and there was nothing wrong with that circuit.? After many disassembly-reassembly cycles, I finally found a cogent result: IC2551-B ended up being the stage where the "noise" was being introduced.? This is a filter circuit used for all modulation modes OTHER than WBFM, AM, and the TV mode (a more careful examination of the behavior of the different modes might well have pointed to this part of the circuit much sooner -- lesson learned). I replaced this IC with a close alternate (TL972IPWR).? So far, the result is good.? Until, it isn't. I don't know if this will help anyone, but hopefully is does.? If anything, it suggests that these "strange" faults can be repaired, but one should be very methodical and thorough.? Learning the details of how the circuit works is also an important task to accomplish. Cheers |
Re: Beta Testers needed
开云体育Hi Richard, ? I have an IC7000, and also an IC7800, which is my main radio. Is that covered too? I assume so, as the IC7700 is mentioned. What is the project, and I wonder if I can assist… FYI, I am a digi-mode operator only, so I wonder if that is important. My IC700 is stand-alone, and only really used for local VHF/UHF, but my IC7800 is connected via a microHAM MKII to my PC. ? Very best 73 ? Phil GU0SUP ? Re: NIB Icom 7000
Perhaps you meant the Yeasu FT-891, which is similar in size to the IC-7000. I owned an FT-891 for a while, and there are many features about that rig that make it very desirable. Unfortunately, at least in my opinion, its user interface is not one of them. When I had the opportunity to buy an IC-7000 from an estate sale, I jumped on it and have never looked back. None of the menu-driven rigs are especially user-friendly, but at least the IC-7000? user interface is not that different from my former IC-706MkIIG and my still current IC-703, so at least there's less head-scratching when I want to dig deeper than the first level of menus.
