I would track down shelding. I have seen some talk of checking the spring fenders on shield covers.

I had a WWll signal generator with a pincil tube. It was a constant effort to track down leakage that excaped out the dial window. :-)

Tom,

Try checking the power leads with a scope and verify that there is no crud on the supply.? Also check voltage levels.? You could also remove every excess lead from the radio when you test.? Finally try a line isolator connected to the radio, though that should only apply on transmit.? Does this happen when connected to a dummy load and a short double shielded cable and everything else except the power disconnected?? You may end up putting chokes on the power leads but do the other checks first.

G'day all,
I received my working IC-7000 back this morning, I have popped the bottom lid to have a peak on what was replaced, however as it seems there is a fair bit of de-soldering to do to get what I'm going to call the PA board out, (while we have some topics in the group on acronyms - I CBF, and just want to get back on air!) so I'm going to accept that the dealer has advised that it was a fault with the 'pre-driver', and is common with the 7000s. So, the LDG IT-100 gets let off the hook at this stage.
So firstly, thanks all for the replies, 

re: power connectors, I'm just using the standard 4 pole block on the back of the Icom, and about 20mm Eye's onto the screw terminals of my PSU, will probably look at a 'double' Anderson type connector when i set up in the mobile, as i am using those with all my solar gear and haven't had any problems with them at all.    

re: tuning up power, if I hit ether the tune button on the radio, or the tune button on the LDG, the radio only TX 10W CW (even with normal tx power set at 100%) for the duration of the tune  cycle (tested into a dummy load direct out of the back of the radio) Note that the tuner cuts the tune cycle short when it receives no TX power on its input.

re: power/data connector between radio and the LDG IT-100 - mine is a molex on the radio end (same as Hard drive power connector), and what Wikipedia calls a 4 pin circular connector (what I call a S-Video connector) so in this case I am lucky that things cant pull out and touch adjacent connections on either end all that easily.

Looking forward to get back on the air when I get home from work tonight, catch you there.

    The strip is a RIGrunner, which is perhaps the most common PowerPole
    outlet strip. If they had recessed the connectors on that, you
    wouldn't be able to do this, but they didn't, so, OK, they setup
    this potential fail situation. But of course you can do this with
    single PowerPole cables also.

    For example, below is a single set of 70A PowerPoles connected
    offset (if image doesn't display, follow the link). Yes, they can't
    be connected backwards, but depending on what you're connected to,
    you could short out the supply line. Why? If you don't have a fuse
    on the radio negative lead and you plug in this way into a
    high-current source with the radio and supply grounded some other
    way (coax, ground terminal), there won't be a fuse to protect your
    wiring and you could have a nice little fire.

BTW, the "Tune on transmit" feature only works with the AH-4 tuner, if I
recall (again, refer to the manual).

?I have three of the G4ZLP interfaces and they work fine with all of my rigs including the IC7000

If you can stretch to it the Digimaster Pro Three is really great with built in Winkeyer and FSK chip

an appropriate cable for the CI-V port. It also came with the correct

I bought the RT Systems cable and software, although you can buy the cable separately. It works fine with FLDigi, WSJT and several other programs with rig control.?

It had been working perfectly not an hour before.

digital modes with a PC and a soundcard.  RMS Express supports CAT,
works well with the IC-7000, and will automatically QSY to the frequency
you select.  For PTT, my interface has 2 serial ports internally and I
use the RTS line of the second port for PTT, rather than CAT.

You also need the VOAProp (the ionospheric propagation prediction
software from the Voice of America) software installed, as RMS Express
uses that for HF path predictions (to calculate the best RMS to connect to).

If you use an AH-4, a tip is to configure the radio to auto-tune on PTT.

You need to configure your callsign into RMS Express.  Can't remember if
there's any other settings that need to be tweaked, it's been a couple
of years since I did my initial installation.

To get started, compose a Winlink message.  To keep things simple, send
it to your Internet email address, and when done post it to the Outbox.
Click on the drop down list next to "Open Session" and select WINMOR
WL2K.  Click on Open Session.  This will open a couple of windows.  Here
you need to configure your radio and soundcard parameters and set your
transmit levels.  I use no more than 50% rated transmit power.

When all is setup, click on Channel Selection and select a station near
the top of the list - make sure it's on a band your antenna system can
use! (the list is ordered with the most likely paths at the top).  If
you have setup CAT, the radio will now be on the correct frequency,
otherwise you will have to manually tune to the DIAL frequency on USB.
Click on the Start menu link to start your session.  If all goes well,
your message will be sent and you'll receive it on the Internet (and
you've created your Winlink mailbox).
