Chiltern Hills Rally 2
I try and attend several local car club events each year and sometimes encounter other club members without knowing that they are going. Here are details of the Chiltern Hills event on 19 May which I've already booked in for. For such events I could see if we could have a club area, or even an arrangement to park together. What do others think? Should I maintain a list of events/shows and log who is attending? Cheers Sheridan From: Chiltern Hills Rally <Info@...> Spring is fast approaching which means car show season is just around the corner, not least the 2024 instalment of the Chiltern Hills Vehicle Rally – Sunday 19th May 2024. We have a record number of club stands booked in for this year’s rally including; the Hellfire Motor Vehicle Club, Nissan 300ZX Owners club, the Morris Register, Petrolheads, the MR2 Drivers Club, the Singer Owners club, UK Crossfires club and our very own YouTuber Beards and Bangers. If you would like to book your club in to the rally then please visit: https://chilternhillsrally.org.uk/buy-tickets-here and look for vehicle entry with club! For everyone else, pre booked tickets offer real value for money! ?10 entry gets you, your cherished vehicle and one passenger into the rally. A ?10 saving from booking as a late entry on the day! If you are coming as a family please pre-book as an early bird for the best price. We also celebrate a number of car anniversaries this year: as well as being the 120th Anniversary of the first Rover and 100 years since the first MG was built, a number of iconic models celebrate birthdays this year: 25 years ago the last mass-produced British saloon came to market – the Rover 75, now fast becoming a modern classic. Another legend celebrating 35 years is the popular roadster the Mazda MX-5. Moving further back in time, the legendary Volkswagen Golf is 50 this year; half a century of quality German engineering all over the roads. Also celebrating birthdays this year are the Ford Mustang (60,) Jaguar D-Type (70) and the beloved classic Mini (65.) For the gourmets among you there will be an array of food stalls as well as options for coffee and naturally, a beer tent! Dog owners can enter their pooches in the dog show and the entertainment stage will have a great selection of acts – more details in the next newsletter. We look forward to welcoming you to the 2024 rally and please do get in touch in the contact page if you have any questions. Event: Classics on the Common - Wednesday, July 24, 2024 #cal-invite
Classics on the Common When: Wednesday, July 24, 2024 Where: Harpenden Common, Hertfordshire Organizer: Liz Jack dandhnye@... View Event Description: Dear Classic car and bike enthusiasts ‘Iconic event has gone from strength to strength,’ was said of Classics on the Common in a recent issue of Prac?cal Classics. Don’t we know it! Uncertain weather forecasts gave way to our usual mode of bright sunshine, giving us all a grand ?me among nearly 1000 classic cars, bikes and scooters. But the rain did arrive at 5.30pm and the impact on our spectator numbers meant the money raised for our nominated chari?es was down on last year, but s?ll, at ?34,000, among our best results. That’s all down to you, our sponsors, our supporters and the spectators, the people of Harpenden and beyond, who donate so generously at every Classics show. Thank you all so much. Since Rotary took over the event in 2009 more than ?350,000 has been raised for charity. This year’s nominated chari?es were St Luke’s Special Educa?onal Needs School in Redbourn, Wheathamstead Community Group and PumpAid. How grateful they were when recently we presented them with cheques for their share of the money raised and they told about the marvellous projects it would support. Now let’s look forward to 2024. Next year’s Classics on the Common will be on Wednesday, 24 July. Put that date in your diary now. Tickets will be on sale in April, via Classics on the common link or by post. Invitations will be sent before then. Yours sincerely Liz Jack Chairman, on behalf of Classics on the Common Committee of Rotary in Harpenden

New group account
You will have received an email notifying you of a new group account for the IAC. The name IAC has already been taken so I have chosen IACLUB. I felt that the Independent Automobile Club should perhaps have a more modern method of communication, where members could post messages, place photos and upload and download files such as the club constitution, rules and details of upcoming events. This can be done via a website or a groups facility. The former needs a web manager to upload/download, whereas the latter can be used by any member for the same purpose without intervention by the manager. I have steered away from Facebook and Instagram type accounts as they have a very poor reputation for privacy. As an example I have created a group called iaclub.groups.io via which I have sent this message. You will have received this invitation to join which you can confirm or ignore. I have uploaded pictures of my cars, and also the club rules and constitution as an example of what can be done. We can also use the calendar facility to list car shows and events that might be of interest to all. I have also uploaded the latest newsletter together with a selection of previous newsletters. Can I suggest that we try this out for a few months to see how it goes? If it does not work then we can simply delete the facility of keep it for those who wish to continue. Make a start by emailing: [email protected] to send everyone a message. Browse to iaclub.groups.io and add some pictures or add an event to the calendar that you think might interest members. -- Best wishes Sheridan Williams Chairman - Independent Automobile Club Email: iac@... -- Sheridan iac@...
