[hammond_zone] foldback

I had a T-series spinet that I parted out for (among other things) key contacts for my L-295, but once I got a full-size console I didn't bother. I've still got it the manual but I never finished disassembling it. I've also got an M lower manual somewhere, I picked it up for $25 because I can make more than that selling foldback kits off of it (-: but I haven't bothered. << 2. Wires to connect the notes to the proper contacts. I noticed that the wires that connect the notes to the connects are very thin. Are these special wires? >> If I remember right, it's resistance wire. << And what are bussbars? >> They're the bars that the key contacts touch when depressed. I think they go to the drawbars, because the key contacts are connected to the TWG. If I also remember right, L-series spinets have all full-length busbars, so you'll just need key contacts. << I know some of you know excactly what I'm talking about. So let it roll!!! I know what you're talking about, but I've never done it - just read about it, and put it on the shelf once I got my now-departed E-112 console. Doug |

Foldback is where at the ends of the manual notes "foldback" because not all

the frequencies are generated. On B3/C3 at the bass end of the manuals the bottom octave on the 16' drawbar foldsback because the first 12 tonewheels produce a complex tone only used for bass pedals. At the top end the !' drawbar has fold back from the F# in the 4th octave, the next G actually plays an octave lower, and this repeats after the F# in the top octave. Lower drawbars foldback progressively higher up the keyboard, until on the 22/3' drawbar there is foldback only on the top note. Spinet Hammonds don't have foldback, the notes just stop playing when the organ runs out of generator frequencies. I remember one time when an irate T-500 owner phoned the shop up after I'd serviced the organ complaining that half the notes didn't work on some drawbars. He'd decided to test the organ for himself after I'd left and then found the "fault" which is a feature of all Hammond spinets! Chris Clifton There is a theory which states that if anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.
