[hammond_zone] BV question

Anyone know how to add reverb to a Hammond BV connected to a Leslie 122?
The preamp isn't like a B3. Also, how can I make it overdrive a little more? It has some growl but a little more would be nice.Thanks...

Yes, there is indeed a difference in the sound. On BV and CV serial 17075
and above, they have a 91-frequency TG, with 12 complex tone wheels for
frequencies 1-12. As a result, these models fold back all 12 notes of the
bottom octave and that's where you'll here the difference.

Raul I think you mentioned that there is a difference in sound with the
BV
and B3 and a few others... like there are more tonewheels or something or
a
difference in frequencies. Can you elaborate? If I was playing one, then
playing the other what would I hear? Thanks! George

I'm in the middle of adding reverb right now on my CV. I have a MKIV unit from an M-3 that I'm putting right into the console. The amp is on a very small, square chassis. It has it's own power supply using a 6X4 rectifier and a 6GW8 triode/pentode two stage amp. I've modified the power supply to provide the B+ for my pre-amp in lieu of a tone cabinet. Now, I'm going to insert the reverb line into the signal stream just like the vibrato is. I'll use a swith to bypass the reverb completely when it's not wanted. The output of the first section of the preamp found at the vibrato line will feed both the vibrato line and reverb amp input. The output from the vibrato line and reverb amp will feed the input of the second section of the preamp. What I'm working on now is the impedances and signal levels for the reverb amp. I'll keep you all posted. As far as overdrive is concerned, I have a theory I'm going to try out once I have the reverb worked out. The input of the second preamp section is a 6J7 pentode connected in super triode configuration. I'm going to experiment with the voltage levels on the different grid elements to see if I can drive the stage into class B clipping while maintaining the same volume level. One thing George Hiatt was talking about is adding a little bit of "dirt" at lower gain levels. I think it can be done. I'll keep you posted on this one, too.

Ken,
YOU are the man that alerted me to this CV. You wouldn't recognize it now! You well know I couldn't figure this amp when we first spoke of it. I was trying to figure how we could modify it to accept an effects loop and all that, remember? Then I drew out the circuit and I was amazed! Even t_402 was blown away, and that says something. Now, I think I'd rater work with the ole AO-13551 than the AO-28! I've been drawing and scheming and scheming and drawing. This will be quite a rig when it's done, I believe. Now, if I can move the C-3, I'll have the space I need to really get into it. I know I'm not the only one, but I'm just dying over those 2 waterlogged Bs on EBay. If I was just a little closer....

Raul,

You're welcome...or, sorry! (I'm sure your wife wants to shoot me right
about now!) :>)

One thing I think I might like to do is add a (gasp!) digital reverb to my
BCV. I want cathedral-like slap echo! I want about 5 seconds of decay!
Unfortunately, I don't think I'll get that with any good old tank reverb.

So, when you figure out all the wonders of the AO15331...well, let's just
say I'm going to owe you a week's worth of dinners or something!
