Thanks, I will definitely further investigate Focus. Sorry that I don't
know more about them and their music. In that day and time, as a teenager,
there was just too much music, and too many bands I was into to fully
develop each band, and prog rock just wasn't as big in the Memphis TN area,
mainly just the prog rock that recieved national airplay. (the bigger hits
of some of the aforementioned bands) I was into Tull, Moody Blues, ELO(I
consider them somewhat progressive), along with most popular rock bands of
the day, (especially the harder stuff like Zep and Sabbath, and southern
rock) diggin' on the music of the '60's, listening to a fair amont of Stax
and Motown, and was exploring '40's and '50's blues. Was also in the
high school band. My noggin was quite full of music. Then came
disco....:-( then the "hair" bands :-( :-( I have pretty much spent the
last 20 years listening to what was recorded in the previous 40, and the
newer stuff from the bands from those 40.
"Sylvia" was done with a spinet?!?!. Hell, there's hope for my M-143! Just
can't afford a "real" Leslie yet, but now won't give up hope of getting a
decent sound out of it, eventually anyway.
It's been a while since I listened to "Hocus Pocus" (am listening to it now)
When I mentioned the "silly little organ thing" I wasn't thinking of the
great Hammond tone behind the yodelling. (had forgotten about that) I was
thinking of the accordian sounding thing behind the cartoonish jibber. (I
can imagine what those of you that have never listened to the song are
thinking at this time)
For an example of the difference between rock and progressive rock (extreme
example), listen to Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll", or Bad Company's "Just
Want to Make Love to You". Then listen to the first 20 minutes or so of
Jethro Tull's "Thick as a Brick" (that's about all most people can handle of
it in the first listening), or any of the first 5 or so Moody Blues albums.
You should be able to tell the difference. (actually, I can't, its all rock
and roll to me)
