[hammond_zone] Re: 9 vs 6 pin
Advice on the options for connecting a real Leslie to a VK-7 is on target overall: you can order an adpater kit from a Hammond-Suzuki dealer or make one of your own.
Be aware, however, that in the case of a Roland VK-7 or VK-77, the gain on the output is somewhat inadequate and that you are not going to get a ton of volume out of the Leslie. I'm working on this issue this week with my own VK-77 and 122 and will have some measurement data this weekend (which I will be happy to post). If you are playing in a jazz combo the gain is probably fine, but if you are playing in a classic rock band like I am, and/or if you want to drive the Leslie into a bit of distortion because you like the sound, then the adapter kits are probably not going to do the trick on the Roland clones. The most flexible option is the Trek UC-1A unit. It has two 1/4" inputs (one high gain and one low gain) and four different pin-outs to connect a wide variety of Leslies. Gain is great, the unit is very well built, and you then get the flexibility to change Leslie cabinets (or run two different Leslies with different pin-outs) easily. I recommend Trek products highly. The downsides are cost - it runs around $300 I believe, could be a bit more - and the fact that you have to control the speed with a footswitch versus having keyboard control. I'll let you know the facts on actual gain structure as soon as I have a chance to make the various connections and put a meter on the output this weekend. Dan |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHello
guys
???? Just seen a question on hooking up a 6 pin
leslie to an 11 pin VK-7, I'm certainly interested in being able to do that, if
there is an adaptor out there please let us know, if not someone should invent
one cause I'm sure they could sell enough to retire Ha Ha!

Ok folks. 2 ways to go. If you're not the electronically inclined,
you can order most of these kits from Ham-Suz dealers. I'd recommend www.GoffProf.com. Dave Vumback is pretty good at sending stuff. Be aware that these folks take a bit of time processing internet orders, and won't send you emails regarding shipping status, etc. If you're anxious, call them. Otherwise just be cool. It'll show up eventually. They're busy people. For the electronically inclined, the source book for all leslie hookups and pinouts can be found via MITA at Harv Olsen's Leslie Page: This will give you the correct info regarding hookups/pinouts/model numbers, etc. Print it out for reference. It's a Bible. Hope this helps, pda Jax Fl |
