The difference is though, the X66 like the B3/C3 after a certain time during their manufacturing no longer have the cups which were mounted on the back of the playing manual assembly attached to the copper tubes which fed the funnels at the top of the run motor/scanner and tone generator.

?

Typically a tone wheel Hammond required ? ounce of oil per year.? With the X-66 generator one half an ounce will probably be more than plenty and the generator will be “sloshing” in oil.? I think ? ounce should be sufficient for the tone generator of 12 wheels.? Use the rest for the Howard motor, and scanner oiling cups of which there are two.

The same as any other tonewheel generator? Fill each cup on the generator twice, allowing the oil to drain into the generator each time, A few drops into the filler tubes on the motor, (The X-66 is a self starting generator if I recall correctly).

Gentlemen,

The console is outfitted with the Trek II SS1 preamp if I remember the model correctly, the Trek folks asked me some questions then said it was a very early model, and lastly, the bass isn't as strong as on my other PR 40. Tomorrow, with assistance I will try to confirm both 15"s are working. In summary the unit plays clean with reverb off but gets ugly when the reverb is on.

Yeah a sandy beach sounds really nice right about now.? We had +6F here this morning so a good day to go work in? my shop on the organ.?

I have a White lab who is totally dependent on me so like you, I will have to pass on the convention.? Would be fun to meet and greet other Hammond fans.

Bob, when I was in Mexico at the X66 convention, Dan did a seminar on how to install midi on the
X66, he was amazing to follow his instructions.
I heard they are going to have another convention in September this year,, it is usually held in Cancun and it is well worth it if you could contact Paco for details.
I doubt if I can go this year as I have a cat that requires meds 3 times a day to keep him alive, however there are people from all over the world that show up for it, tons of fun...

Later, Jim Mc.

Re: X-66 Trouble shooting Help

Hey Jim -
Thanks for asking.? Had to take some time off from the organ to dig out of a snow storm we had here.? I live in the country, so when the white stuff comes, you gotta get it moved and moved fast.? Good thing I like snow.

Making good progress on the organ.? Stilling trying to isolate the low level output from the 4 outputs to the tone cabinets.? Working on the photo cells in the swell pedal now but other then that, it's coming right along.?

I"ve never heard an X-66 play, so not sure what to expect out the of the tone cabinets.? But the Mic output is strong so thinking they are not the issue.

Again, thanks for asking.? Will keep you posted.? Bottom line is I'm learning a lot and having fun working on this organ.? Wisconsin winters are long so this is a great project for me.

Best,
Bob

Re: X-66 Trouble shooting Help

Jim - I think I have found a problem, but not sure.?

I have been looking at the proportional keyers, and monitoring the voltage at K1 (key input voltage) and no matter what or how many drawbars are pulled out, the voltage stays at -15VDC.? If I read the theory of operation correctly, shouldn't this voltage increase and decrease depending on the position of the drawbars?

I would be grateful to anyone who can address this for me.

Thanks
Bob

Tone generator output does not change with age.check the clipper amps output. Then check the divider outputs.

Hey Jim -
?
I am assuming that my divider circuits are working because I do have proper tones on each and every key.? What I don't know is the amplitude of the signal from the TG feeding them.? I may be wrong in this assumption, but shouldn't the output of the TG remain constant regardless of age?? Rotating wheel, magnetic field, seems impervious to age in my book (unlike myself).
?
Can you or anyone answer that question?
I guess looking at the proportional keyers is the next step after the TG and as you said the Flute filters.
?
I'm gonna get a scope and do some checking of wave forms and P-P outputs.? As I said, I'm new to this, but there is a lot of winter left here so it will keep my mind busy.? Better then doing crossword puzzles.
Take care,
Bob

The biggest trouble with the X66 is it only has12 wheels on the generator and all the sounds are divided into all of the sounds for the organ. If you have? a way to check the output of the generator
then back track to the filter board to see where you start loosing the signal and on which board you are checking you might? get lucky enough to find the culprit. I only hope someone else has some experience in helping you as I am out of ideas.
