Re: US screws - name
In Canada, we use both SAE and Metric.? I use strictly SAE for machine screws,? nuts and bolts, and hardware for ant stuff etc, etc.? ?I avoid metric like the plague.? However,? cars are all metric, including cars built in the usa.? Metric came out in Canada, after I had left school.? ?I still can't relate to it.? ? I have to mentally convert it for everything.? ?80 kmh ?? ?Oh, that's 51 mph, ok, I know how fast I'm going.? ?20C? is? 68F.... ok, now I know how warm / cold it is.? ?Fuel milage is? Liters per 100 km...(62 miles) ..... instead of miles per imperial / US gallon.? ?100 mm? = 10 cm =? aprx 4".? 25.4 mm = 1"? ? 1/4" = 6.35 mm.? I asked my son one day to get me a short length of? 2x4.? ?(A 2x4? is a piece of wood that is 1.5"? thick x 3.5"? wide).? ?He comes back with a 12" square piece of? 1/2" thick plywood.? WTF ?? "What the hell are u doing"? ? He sez......' How many CM is that ? '? ?F#@K, I don't know Josh.? ? I wasn't abt to convert 1.5"? to cm....and ditto with 3.5"? to? cm.?? |

Are you referring to the screws that mount the tube sockets?? Common thread sizes are 6-32, 8-32 and 10-32 or 10-24 . Mike

Hi Jim, Your're exactly right!?? i agree, the Only way is grid drive.?? Thanks for taking time do the math and and expose the massive plate? current on peaks. Regardless, it's a crazy project but we are getting to exercise our imagination and exploring the limits of big steel tubes. 73's, Mike? Re: Total insanity....500KW 11m amp being built.
Mike, where are they gonna obtain a modulation xfmr ??? ? Per the? Eimac spec sheet for plate modulated AM,? ?the secondary of the modulation xfmr would have? 15 kvdc across it...and 23.4 amps? flowing through the sec of the modulation xfmr.? ?The 15 kv across the modulation xfmr will rvs in polarity.....and the sec of the mod xfmr is in series with the 15 kv? B+.? ? And that's just for 100%? positive modulation. IE:? the B+ would? swing to? +30 kv? on positive mod peaks..... and down to 0 volts? on negative peaks.? 15 kv? @ 11.7 amps = 175.5 kw modulation xfmr.? ?At the crest of the positive modulation,? B+ on the anode? is now? 30 kv....and plate current is now double at 23.4 amps.? Let's assume plate modulation is not happening any time soon.? They shoulda just run it grid driven, for linear service? like on the spec sheet.? ?200 kw pep out, and 50 kw cxr......which? swings to 75 kw.? ?That's 25 kw of total swing....( 25 kw of? total sideband power)..., with just 12.5 kw into each sideband.? Still a wasted effort.? The 3x6 amp puts out 12.5 kw pep on ssb.? |

I have found that Tom has a lot on his plate but he will get around to your order or email enquiries as soon as he can. CTR Engineering is pretty much a one man show. Yes, shipping costs are calculated and advised specifically for your order. Bieing retired and in Australia, I accept that everything takes time, so I don't mind if it takes a while before he can address my questions or order. I'm very patient. Anyway, his stuff is all very good and well worth the wait. 73, Alek VK6APK. On 15/03/2025 2:56 pm, Steve wrote:

12 KW CCS ON 160-15M....USING THE 3CX-6000A7..... PART 22
12 KW CCS ON 160-15M....USING THE 3CX-6000A7..... PART 22 Here, the series bank of 2500 uf @ 450 vdc lytics is uniquely wired up, in it's final config.? The ring terminal / spade lug is lopped off a sta-kon crimp connector, leaving just the barrel.? ?The barrel is then slid over the round pins of the lytics.? ?16 ga silver / stranded / teflon wire is inserted into the barrel, along with the solid 16 ga (.052")? lead of a 6 amp RVS connected diode, and also one end of the 100K? @ 3 watt MOF EQ resistor.? (1% Tolerance).? ?The resistors? all measure exactly? 99,800 ohms.? On paper, the V drop across each lytic should be identical. (375 vdc).? Diss in each resistor is 1.4 watts. The function of the RVS connected diode across each cap, is in the unlikely event that if one leg of the main FWB rectifier assy failed shorted, you would end up with a condition whereby raw AC? from the plate xfmr sec, would be pumped into the string of lytics, causing severe damage to them.? ?The RVS connected diodes in this case, would conduct, bypassing the caps.... and taking out the HV fuse #2. ?(located between? sec of plate xfmr and input to fwb).? ?The replacement costs for those lytics is very expensive. (non issue if an oil cap was used) After? crimping, the? tops and bottoms of each barrel are then soldered.? This makes for a 100%? solid connection, both mechanically and electrically.? ? Originally, those lytics were designed to be mounted to a PC board.? The 3rd (un-used) pin was to make for a small tripod, for better support.? ?In this application,? the caps are inverted, and mounted with nylon capacitor clamps.? ?The 330 cfm (filtered) intake air will 1st pass? by the caps,? before going into the planum of the RF deck.? |
Re: Total insanity....500KW 11m amp being built.
Anytime a radiator is initially filled, like in a car, it's? typ? vac filled.? ?The last thing you want is trapped air? anywhere in the loop.? ?That would be a disaster on a 100 kw water cooled tube.? ?I'm assuming the large air cooled radiator will be outside the shop, ( to dump the heat to the outside)..... so lengthy water lines? will be involved.? IE: the total loop distance has increased.? |
