RDRLIST on VM/370 CE

 

In VM/370 CE 1.1.1 is there an EXEC, MODULE, etc that provide the functionality that RDRLIST provides?

Hi Jim,

The RDRLIST EXEC is built around the capabilities in XEDIT, which is not part of the
Community Edition. I am thinking of building?some kind of panel manager that would
let tools like RDRLIST be constructed, but it is a significant?effort. Various panel manager
tools have been written over the years, but most of them use XEDIT as the base technology.

Does anyone know of a CMS panel facility that is not based on XEDIT??

There is a recent contribution in the FILES area called boogie-tool-v1.aws that contains
an old REXX function package from SAS that has a 3270 screen builder. Someone with
3270 data stream experience might?be able to write a panel manager in REXX that could be
used to build a RDRLIST capability. (The?boogie-tool-v1.aws file needed some REXX fixes
to work, but those?will be available in the next Community Edition release.)

I miss RDRLIST?too!

Hello Jim,

No RDRLIST or equivalent on VM/370 CE.

There is a command, SFBROWSE (spool file browse) that provides a (limited) substitute for it. It does not give you a full-screen list of the spool files in the reader, but you can browse, print or purge a spool reader file, one at the time.

Check help sfbrowse for more information.

There is an IOS3270 package at but the likelihood it would work with MECAFF on VM/370 probably approaches zero. My search for IOS3270 ASSEMBLE was not successful.

The manual for it is at and might provide an adequate description for an API.

SFBROWSE will be fine for now.
It is certainly better than doing a READCARD followed up with a FSVIEW.
 

Jim - the package at the IBM download site contains the IOS3270 MODULE and XMOD - do you think these could be installed on the VM/370 sixpack running under Hercules? I use x3270 (Linux) to connect to VM/370 and would like to run an old REXX EXEC that uses IOS3270.
 

It uses a lot of the features for REXX on VM that I ported?to run on the Community Edition.
I loaded the version from Jim Elliot's OBM web page and it runs the IOS3270 ? command.
I am copying the IOSIVP6 EXEC from the online IOS3270 PDF file to see if that runs.

I am having no luck cutting and pasting from the IOS3270 Manual
into the editor on VM370CE. If you send me your EXEC, I could try that, or you could
load the IOS3270 MODULE from the IBM Download page to VM370CE and try it out.

Bob? - following your post I've installed VM370CE and am using that rather than sixpack 1.2. When I try to run my EXEC (just as a test - knowing the IOS3270 calls will fail) it turns out there are REXX problems - a call to SIGNAL fails for example. More investigation needed on my part.

The good news is that VM370CE has EXECIO, another module my EXEC uses.

I 'successfully' used VMARC to get the IOS3270 files onto VM. Unfortunately I get an OPERATION EXECEPTION at E8D060 in routine IOS3270 when i run 'ios3270 ?' (or any other option).I guess the module was built for a much later version of VM CMS.
 

I think I have enough new building blocks in EE that RDRLIST should be doable in a similar way as XEDIT does. As a proof of concept, I have downstripped RECEIVE EXEC Y2 to use it as a PEEK macro. PEEK EE reads NETDATA from cards and places the decoded records into the editor.
Note that the currently uploaded bleeding edge preview of EE is significantly behind, see the EE thread for news to come.
