FW: [g8jcfsdr] Elektor board

开云体育

I am grateful to you for guiding me to understand this new world. In the end, I think I understand. I need an Elektor module and an Arduino module. By superimposing one another, from Pc I can control the receiver in all its functions. Right? And the firmware will upgrade itself, using G8JCFSDR SW.

Does it make a difference if I buy an original or non-original arduino module? I know that the original Arduino is an Italian product but, if I can save money, I'm sorry but happy! :-)

Hi Massimo

I use a chinese clone from eBay, very cheap, but long delivery time, and I would think that with current Covid restrictions, post from China might be even longer :-(

The requirements of the UNO for SDR Shield purposes is very low.

Hi.

You guys convinced me to switch to the new card! I start looking for the best offer on the web. Any advice, not from china?

Thanks.

Hi Massimo

Because the UK is no longer in the EU, my usual list of reliable UK suppliers would not be optimal for you - you will need to pay VAT, Customs duties and other taxes - so you should probably try and find an EU supplier, I wouldn't expect to pay more than EUR 10 inc P&P for a clone UNO from an EU supplier.

I'm sure other people would be able to recommend a good EU based supplier to you.

Hi.

Before buying something wrong, I am attaching what I would have chosen. What do you think?? I need your technical opinion, can I proceed with the purchase?

Hi Massimo

The UNO looks correct, and the SDR Shield is the V2.0 from Elektor which is also correct - note U will need to solder the header pins on the SDR Shield

No problem for soldering with my Weller station! :-)

I'm really curious to see how it works, a novelty for me.

Thanks.

Hi,

both the boards (Arduino and Elektor) arrived today. I need to know if the header pins from arduino and elektor board needs to be all connected.

And then? What to do? Please excuse me, I am not really an expert in this, but I learn fast, HI !

Finally I connected all the header pins from arduino to SDR. Now I am trying to let it work but windows10 when I try to start G8JCFSDR, after setting the com port and the interface as 'ElektorSDRShield', tell me:

Runtime error '91'. Object variable or With block variable not set.

What to do?

Hi Massimo

Good to hear that U have connected up the SDR Shield and the UNO.

Could U please run the G8JCFSDR in TRACE mode so that we can see where the G8JCFSDR is failing ?

and send me the log file

to g8jcfsdr(at)gmail(dot)com

Also could U please run DXDIAG.EXE and again send me the report it generates - Error 91 is often asociated with DIrectX not being (properly) installed, and DXDIAG.EXE will tell us if so.

Finally, could you please check where DX8VB.DLL is installed on your machine, it should be in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\dx8vb.dll

Hi Peter.

Work in progress. Everything assembled. System not working at all on my Pc Win 10 64 bit with error 91 but something happened on a Toshiba laptop with fresh installation of windows 10. Board connected after setting the right COM port and interface, when I open G8JCFSDR software I see the dos windows that upgrades firmware of arduino (amazing!). But, after all, I receive an error in the little window at the end of the upgrade. The receiver seems to work but I am unable to change frequency (I believe, because I heard only a lot of qrm, in every band, using a long wire external antenna!). I try to modify something but now I have a new error that you can see in attachment.

Thanks for precious assistance. In the next message I will send you the log in my main Pc with the 'error 91'.

Best 73.

Massimo

Hi.

I confirm. everything works fine. Peter was very kind helping me step by step in configuring the system. He is really an excellent technician, very well prepared! And this is really called ham spirit.

I am enjoing now SDR listening at my local 80mts qso.

For Peter: I forgot to tell you that I am using a long wire 16.2 mts. antenna from the roof to the ground in diagonal configuration, the one I prefer although I have vertical and yagi beam antennas on the top of the roof. It works fine in every band!

Thanks Peter!

Hi Massimo

Thank you for the kind words, and I am really glad that we didn't discover some serious deep problem !!!

I'll have to temporarily connect my 22m end-fed transceiver antenna to the Elektor SDR Shield and see how much I can hear. For day-to-day SDR listening, I use a home built M0AYF active receiving 1m loop - a poor man's Wellbrook !! - which works well enough from LW upwards, but it's not the most sensitive antenna - but it does provide a useful reduction in local electrical noise from TVs, switched mode PSUs and so on.

BTW, are U active on HF, and if so what modes ? I operate JS8 and Olivia on 40m & 80m mainly although I've been quiet of late.

Take Care, Stay Safe, & Happy Listening

Peter - GM8JCF
