Hi Peter.

There are some stations in Italy trasmitting in AM Stereo, I discover it yesterday! A lot of them are in USA but unfortunately they are so hard to receive from Europe.

I will try with DSB, may be it could work.

Thank you.

All the best and stay safe.

The G8JCFSDR doesn't have a demodulator for MW stereo, but it does have a demodulator for DSB synchronous AM if that's any help.

Hi.

Is there any way to receive AM stereo stations in medium wave frequencies with G8JCFSDR software?

[Reason: Updated with more details of how to manage/edit presets]

Hi Ronald

The presets are saved in .BPL files, ie BandPLan files. Look in C:\Program Files (x86)\G8JCF\G8JCFSDR and U will see the .BPL files.

However, these ,BPL files were never designed to be hand-dited so their structure is not clear nor has it been documented. If you make a mistake editing a .BPL file you may render that specific .BPL unuseable by the G8JCFSDR, it the G8JCFSDR will fail to read that specific .BP file in.

The use of presets is covered very briefly in the Quick Start Guide in section 3.4

3.4 Presets
Select the Main Band, eg Broadcast Bands, then select the sub-band, eg 41m, then click on one of the radio buttons. To store a frequency into a preset, single left mouse click on a preset whilst holding down the SHIFT key. To edit a preset, RIGHT mouse click over a preset and follow the drop down menu.

Note that after editing the preset you must click Update, or Alt+U, if you hit Enter, your edits to this preset will be cancelled.

Also, in Config | General tab there is the AutoTrack Preset feature

When checked on when you change items such as demodulation mode, AGC, passband width and so on, but NOT the frequency, the preset is automatically updated to reflect the receiver settings, ie you don't need to right click the preset and edit these types of values.

I have just verified that the instructions described in 3.4 do work correctly in build 282 as you can see for the Radio Romania International 7310KHz preset I just added to the 41m band.

I am running

Edition??? Windows 10 Pro
Version??? 20H2
Installed on??? ?2020-?11-?10
OS build??? 19042.867
Experience??? Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.551.0

and my account is an administrator account. The start menu settings settings have no Compatibility settings turned on and neither does it require Run As Administrator.

Hope this info helps

Presets not being saved

Hello,

since the installation of the G8JCFSDR (Build 282) on Windows 10 Professional, I have a problem to save the presets. No matter if I start the software as a regular user or as an administrator, the G8JCFSDR will not save the frequencies or other settings of a preset. I can change the frequencies and other settings, but after closing and opening G8JCFSDR again the old frequencies and settigs are still there. The only thing what is being saved is the description.

Where does G8JCFSDR save the presets? Is it a simple text file in some particular folder? Maybe it is possible to change those settings by editig such a file manually.?

Best Regards

Ronald

Re: FW: [g8jcfsdr] Elektor board

Hi Massimo

Thank you for the kind words, and I am really glad that we didn't discover some serious deep problem !!!

I'll have to temporarily connect my 22m end-fed transceiver antenna to the Elektor SDR Shield and see how much I can hear. For day-to-day SDR listening, I use a home built M0AYF active receiving 1m loop - a poor man's Wellbrook !! - which works well enough from LW upwards, but it's not the most sensitive antenna - but it does provide a useful reduction in local electrical noise from TVs, switched mode PSUs and so on.

BTW, are U active on HF, and if so what modes ? I operate JS8 and Olivia on 40m & 80m mainly although I've been quiet of late.

Take Care, Stay Safe, & Happy Listening

Hi.

I confirm. everything works fine. Peter was very kind helping me step by step in configuring the system. He is really an excellent technician, very well prepared! And this is really called ham spirit.

I am enjoing now SDR listening at my local 80mts qso.

For Peter: I forgot to tell you that I am using a long wire 16.2 mts. antenna from the roof to the ground in diagonal configuration, the one I prefer although I have vertical and yagi beam antennas on the top of the roof. It works fine in every band!

Thanks Peter!

Hi Peter.

Work in progress. Everything assembled. System not working at all on my Pc Win 10 64 bit with error 91 but something happened on a Toshiba laptop with fresh installation of windows 10. Board connected after setting the right COM port and interface, when I open G8JCFSDR software I see the dos windows that upgrades firmware of arduino (amazing!). But, after all, I receive an error in the little window at the end of the upgrade. The receiver seems to work but I am unable to change frequency (I believe, because I heard only a lot of qrm, in every band, using a long wire external antenna!). I try to modify something but now I have a new error that you can see in attachment.

Thanks for precious assistance. In the next message I will send you the log in my main Pc with the 'error 91'.

Best 73.

to g8jcfsdr(at)gmail(dot)com

Also could U please run DXDIAG.EXE and again send me the report it generates - Error 91 is often asociated with DIrectX not being (properly) installed, and DXDIAG.EXE will tell us if so.

Finally, could you please check where DX8VB.DLL is installed on your machine, it should be in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\dx8vb.dll

Finally I connected all the header pins from arduino to SDR. Now I am trying to let it work but windows10 when I try to start G8JCFSDR, after setting the com port and the interface as 'ElektorSDRShield', tell me:

Runtime error '91'. Object variable or With block variable not set.

What to do?

Hello Peter, Thank you for the beautiful SDR program you have built.
I have version 282.6 installed and it works well with the Elektor SDR.
I am did not encounter problems as described in previous topics (on windows 10, with the latest updates).
Only stopping the SDR application takes about 15 seconds, it seems like there is a timeout on the audio device. No problem!

I do have a question about the Arduino source code. Is it available?
I would like to change this for a different LCD display type and I also want to use the Elektor SDR board for CW tx.
(I understand that if there are changes in the next release that this Arduino code version, 1.13, may not work anymore).

Greetings,

Berto PA3HFN

Hi All

The G8JCFSDR installer on the website,? ,has been updated to the latest version which supports both x32 and x64 platforms.

Thank you to all those who helped me fix the problem. I never would have realised there was a problem unless you had mentioned it on this forum, so thank you.
